All part of the journey through life. It is only a watch and staying liquid and debt-free is far more important. Glad it turned out OK for you and got the end-result you wanted.

Guess I'm a snob, but I cannot bring myself to wear anything OTHER than a Rolex. If I needed dough, I'd sell one and wait until I recouped in order to buy another Rolex. Trading down is terribly unsatisfying and a nerve-wracking experience. Believe me, I've tried. And, yes, I think a Speedy is a trade down. Every time I wore something else, even for a change of pace, I just hated looking at the thing on my wrist. Once I put the Rolex back on, all was right with the world again.

X2

As another member recently pointed out "a Rollie is a camera" a beautifully engineered German Twin Lens Reflex, produced from the late 50's to early 70's (?). The most popular model was the "Rollieflex" followed by the "Rolliecord" and referred to as "Rollies"

Apologies for the thread highjack, an old anal photograper.

I bet you would be all over a Speedmaster if it had a coronet on the dial...

I'm a car guy, as well as a cigar guy. I can appreciate a Honda as much as a Porsche and a Nicaraguan bundle as much as a cab of BBF's. You should try to be a bit more open-minded.

From your profile, looks like you got a 2012 ToG - keep that one.

If you live long enough, watches you flip, trade or sell are just pieces of time that are good for that slice of your life.

IMHO - Never look back or you will be forever over spilt milk.

BTW, that works in watches and in life.

Thanks for your comments !

Having read all your comments i would like to thankyou to all that responded .
My personal take on this matter is having built up in watches over the years with a loving passion etc.. £50 watches £500 watches £2000 watches then owning a couple of Rolex watches from new .

Then going back to an omega from owning a rolex to me seems to be a back step.
Theres nothing wrong with omega watches , i have had a couple of them before owning a rolex .

Without omega being there as a stepping stone i wouldnt have a rolex today.

There is only one speedmaster. Not the shoemaker legend. I'd hate that one too. :-X

You lose the bet. I had a Speedy as well as a Seamaster. I found the quality of the Omegas to be dubious at best and they were sorely lacking in the personal satisfaction department. Being open-minded is fine, until you've had enough experience to know what works and what doesn't. For me, at this point in the timeline, only a Rolex will do. Same with beer ... Guinness or ... Guinness.

Still think its funny pele get bent it of shape about theyterm "Rollie".

I'm surprised about the Speedmaster bashing also. Nothing can substitute for a Rolex, but. Speedmaster is VERY iconic and I love the look. Even though Rolex would still get more wrist time. The new Speedy with the new movement and sapphire sandwich = AMAZING.

Id sell everything else first before letting go of Rolex.

Never understood the "this brand vs that brand" argument. Each brings it's own history, technology, and value to the table.
I'd be proud to own a Speedy. Also proud to own my Seiko's. I guess being a staunch Tudor fan relegates status to a lesser concern and puts enjoyment at the top of the list. I'm not in collecting for the competition.

TBH these are always my favorite replies "Yea I had one and I was just shocked by the dubious quality of the thing!"

Then you ask for specifics on that dubiousness and the response tends to be... "umm, ah... well... Its just the whole vibe of the thing"

(Video for illustration, any Australians will get what I mean immediately ;))

So you wouldn't wear a PP or VC?? Is their quality not up to Rolex standards?
