AD offering 12 month same as cash - trying to decide what rolex to buy...

all,

new to forum, own a p-series airking which i love and plan to keep. but a local AD is offering 12 month same as cash, financing. probably the only way i could swing another purchase right now, so really considering moving forward. question i have is what watch to choose:

sub
gmt (pepsi)
explorer II (white dial)

i do very much like all three. assume i am not purchasing for the "specific task" the watch was designed for, what would the group purchase if given this opportunity?

does rolex have a published retail price for each? (i just wanted to check to see if the AD, maybe padded retail price at all)

Mike, Welcome to TRF.

I'm not fond of anybody going into debt over a watch...However, I am in favor of those no-interest payment plans.. provided the monthly payments are well within a budget..

As far as which watch...Depends totally on you..They're all good for what they do.

. The Sub is the classic icon, well built, recognisable and a good choice for every day wear.. came out in 1953 for the water crowd

. The GMT is also a classic and came out in 1954 for the aviation crowd. The extra GMT hand is great for traveling across country or the world..

. The Explorer II is a bit more durable and adventurous because of it's stainless steel bezel and is perfect for a daily watch for an active lifestyle. The Explorer came out in 1953, but your Air-King is an example of that era. The EXP II was introduced in 1971 to give explorers the 24 hour GMT hand.

Any of those would be top notch and a lifetime investment..

I couldn't choose and I have all three..



(get the sub first, then the others) I doubt that any AD is going to pad the MSRP on any of those.

All three are great choices. I'd go for either the GMT or the Sub. I have a Sub and absolutely love it. I've also had a GMT and really enjoyed it as well. It all comes down to personal preference. The Sub is listed at $5175. I'm not sure what the exact MSRP is on the EXP and GMT. Good luck and let us know what you decide on getting.

I'm a bit biased too as I have a Sub 16610 and ADORE it. Have had it for about 14 months and never tire of it. A true classic! You won't go wrong with any of the 3, so enjoy making your decision! Continue to try each on to see which one SINGS!

All three are excellent performers in the world of horology. If it were my dollars, knowing what I know now--I would go for the Sub.

Personaly ...id go for the Pepsi GMT.......but id have the AD swop out the bezel for the black/red..(My fave).....................

20% deposit........£558.00

36 monly payments of......£62

Here the AD's doesnt offer finantiation. If they do anytime, I will be able to get a lovely Sea Dweller. Maybe I should do some anonymous phone calls to ask ;)

Wow, 3 YEARS to pay off a watch??? I've never heard of that before. Not good for those flippers

Choice depends on use. Sub is a classic no matter the use. GMT second hour hand is really nice if you travel across time zones or need to keep up with zulu time. I don't know about the new GMTs, but my old GMT does not have the safety catch on the clasp. Thus, if you are doing something active, like around water or mountains; for example, then I would suggest the Sub. If you travel a lot and find yourself mostly sitting (airplanes, airports, meetings) then I would lean toward the GMT. If none of the above matters, then buy the one that feels and looks good on your wrist. Can't comment on the EXPII. Here is some sound advice that your grandmother would give you...stay away from debt!!!!

thanks to all that replied. may hold off til some funds are available.. may got back to AD and just do an impulse buy.. knowing i can afford the added monthly cost... may stay away.. but no matter what.. thank you for the input!

Id go with a LV Sub or a seadweller (im counting that as a sub ok :D)
The normal one is nice, but hey, who doesnt have it? :P

It is all a matter of personal preference, but I for my part just LOVE the Sub

I suggest you try on all models and the one that smiles back at ya is the one to go for!
