Wife's rants on your watches

When she gets pissed for whatever reasons, she'll sometime say this..

"if I knew you like Rolex watches, I wouldn't have bought the tag hueur(how do u spell that thing?) for you for that much money!(2.5k on that aquaracer blue--leonardo series whatever)

I was thinking.." I didn't ask you. You should have asked me what I like first." But of course, I didn't tell her that. I just don't like that Tag.

The other watch she bought me was a Seiko quartz..love that watch, but that was before i discovered you know what brand.

rant over. Still love her.

You guys are lucky!

My wife has rants over my cars and motorcycles, I get in such crap when I buy a new one...... And then modify it. Or fail to sell the preceding one.......

Mine finally let's me buy only if I flip. Better than the earlier motto "no new watches". So if I buy vintage - does that count? Rich

love is knowing you will never get the gift right and agreeing ahead of time to be advised on what to get. In the spirit of equity, my wife has agreed if I get a good bonus this year, and am looking OK so far, for me a second hand Aquanaut and Breguet for her a Birkin bag. Yes mine will be a little more expensive but it is my work bonus. It will also close out my watches at 8 and then I am DONE......... i think. We don't live in a fancy house, we don't spend big elsewhere so this is our respective vice, along with shoes and clothes. We dont have kids and both work 12 hours a day so this is our fun. In both cases they are always assets that can be sold if required down the track

Alex, my wife is understanding enough and knows me well enough to suggest that I am deluding myself..... to quote her I would be insulted if you don't get that black face, two tone gold Daytona you have shown me before......... ah now that is love.......... but it will come with an offsetting Louis Vuitton hand bag undoubtedly.

I kind of fall into the same category.

My wife just doesn't understand why I spend much time online looking at watches and cars. She'll say "I don't know why your looking at that again! Doesn't it look the same as last time? If you want it, just get it!!"

Then she'll smile, give me a wink and say "just work harder!"

My girl doesn't care less. I don't see why they would care ? My priority would always be the essentials and keeping a savings account for emergencies. It's not like I would ever let watches get in the way of taking care of what matters.

I fall into the category that my wife actually encourages me to enjoy my little watch hobby. No ranting in my house.

As long as our finances are in order, my wife doesn't care. In her words... enjoy them while you can, you'll have to sell one whenever the kids need a car or for each year at university. I'm hoping my kids prefer bicycling and get full scholarships or I'll be watchless in a few years.

If someone is buying luxury items while the kids go hungry and bills aren't getting paid, that's one thing.... but if all expenses are met, and both spouses are respecting one another's financial goals, that's another. Over the years I've tried to keep quiet... not always easy to do, especially with the latest project. Husband is building a 747 flight simulator in the basement - complete with cockpit and cabin. Sheesh... thousands and thousands of dollars spent, with UPS bringing more stuff every day.... then I think about my cute little vintage car that was also completely unecessary and I smile a little.

I'm all for open communication, but sometimes just deciding not to say anything is the better choice.

I hope he is using 3 x 2560x1600 screens with the bezels removed similar to this setup:

I tried something like it this summer, in landscape mode instead of portrait mode, but realized most of the games I play don't work well with surround screens (I also didn't like the fish-eye effect issues).

Well, the key to good gift giving is knowing what the recipient likes. The closer to the mark you are, the better the gift is. It shows that one cares enough to know the person and select the perfect gift. Unfortunately your wife didn't know you well enough to get you the watch you wanted.

When it comes to Rolexes, we even have strong preferences to which model we enjoy.

Wow. Maybe she just doesn't know anything about watches and was trying to do something nice...

Personally, my wife knows absolutely nothing about watches. The nice thing about that is she doesn't even know when I wear home a new one!

Shoes, OTOH, she notices instantly...
