Am I too "big" for a DJ 36mm?

This might seem a bit weird. I am about 6.2" 188, and having some concerns about the size of my DJ 36mm. I think it looks a bit small on my wrist, almost feminine.

It´s been annoying me more and more the last couple of weeks. I bought the watch last November.

What do you guy´s think?

I´ve tried the DJII, but don´t like it at all unfortunately.

Some pics would help, but I say "no way!!". I have the same size wrist and wear an 36mm Exp 1 which has a smaller case than the new 36mm DJ. I think it fits perfect. I actually prefer it sometimes to my 40mm Exp 2 especially on a NATO as of late.

As the old adage goes, wear what YOU like and disregard what others may think. I feel 36 mm would be too small for my wrist, which is only 7 1/4." My own taste runs to the 40-46 mm range--some might think the larger ones are "too big"--I don't care, I like 'em.

Well back in the 1940s and into the 1950s there were big men around then and average size of wrist watches then was 30mm.And the men in those days did not even think that a size of a watch was feminine.So be your own man you wear whatever watch you want I do.

For me I feel it's too small because I am 6'3" and 7 1/2" wrist and I have trouble reading the time on the 36mm dial. But this is me, do what works best for you.

Your DJ looks perfect on your wrist, Patrik. Why worry about size? Just enjoy it.

There were a few pics here a few weeks ago , showing different sizes on the same wrist / person.

Bottom line is that noone really notices a few mm difference - I guess unless you wear a huge onion type thing on your wrist :)

It is very individual, and in my mind relates more to the size of the wrist/size of hands and proportions than your body length.

Try to take a couple of pictures (not using close distance and wide angle lens) and post them for comments.

I understand your dilemma. I had an Air-King for a while, but eventually sold it since I percieved it too small, and stopped using it. This said I have skinny wrists, and absolutely prefer the marginally larger 36mm size. My sweet spot (taking my wrist/hand size and proportions into consideration) is 36 - 40 mm, so I am sensitive about millimeters...

As a note; the AK I had for a while was 34 mm across the bezel and 41 mm lug to lug, with a 29 mm diameter crystal/dial. My favourite Explorer is 35/44/30, and my much used DJ 16200 is 34,5/44/30... so the difference between them is really minor... but noticeable ... for me... and that is what matters. The newer DJ is slightly larger cross the bezel, but have the same lug to lug length and crystal diameter. I am currently wearing an Explorer II at 39/47/30

It looks great imho, however if you don't feel the love, there's always the sub, DJII, DDII, etc.
Like you, I have a broad wrist and could carry a big Panerai, etc. but I prefer a more modest watch. I have 18 and only two are over 40mm. Take a photo in the mirror from several feet away, you'll see that it looks appropriate, try that again at a shop with a big boy 44mm+ and you might not like the look. Too small is rarely a problem, but look at some of the wrist shots posted here and at WUS, the apparent home of the oversized watch, and you'll see that to big IS a problem for many.
You could go all in with an IWC big pilot. It's one of the jumbos that I actually like.

If size does matter, then go with a 40 or 42mm. I originally thought a 40mm was a bit small on my 6.75" wrist, but it has grown on me. At the end of the day, size is all relative to ones personal taste.

I have some vintage watches in the 32 mm range that I wear on my 7 1/2 inch wrist and some day, when I have nothing else to do, maybe I'll get around to worrying about what anybody else thinks.
If I like it, it's good.

These two sentences are determinative. It doesn't matter if 100 people chime in on this thread and insist that 36mm is a classic size and it looks great.

To YOU personally, it looks small, feminine and annoys you. Buy a bigger watch.

There's no right or wrong. It's just what you prefer, of course. In the wristshot, it looks perfect. I have big and small watches and switch 'em up based on moods and occasions. When I wanna feel a little more macho I strap on my 44mm Panerai PAM177, but when I have a dinner date and wanna go classic, I wear my vintage 1601 Datejust with silver dial. It's part of the fun of loving watches. Good luck!

I also might be a bit annoyed with the DJ because I think it looks a little "plain". I always thought of the DJ as the perfect watch. Until I wore it for 6 months, then I started doubting my choice.

Perhaps "blining" it up a little and get a 116233 will change my mind about the size. :)

I guess me posting this should be the answer.

In fact I think most people wear watches which are proportionally too big for their wrists. But that's just me and as said, who cares what other people think, as long as you are happy.

In my own case, I actually think my 36mm two tone DJ is the most suitable sized Rolex I own. So needless to say I am not a big fan of the current super cases and 42mm versions.

From the current models I do however own a GMTIIc but what persuaded me were the new features like clasp, ceramic bezel and ball bearing clicks. Otherwise, I still prefer a max diameter of 40mm in the older sports watch cases like 16610 and especially prefer the overall lower height of the older versions. The height of the current 116610 made me skip that purchase as I find it sits too high for my liking. For those with skinny wrists the height can be an issue, whereas those with meaty/fat wrists will absorb the extra height

while i think it looks good on your wrist. i can very much relate to this post from SaddleSC. i think he is correct and you should start looking. have fun with your search. lets us know what you decide.
