Thought on fakers

Did it ever occur to you that fakers might come here saying they have a rolex and think it might be fake to use your expertise to perfect their fakes?

I know this is going a little too far on the paranoid side, and its really easy to spot a fake by iening the watch. But anyways. Just felt like discussing something. (Haha, im addicted to this forum, im here every day)

It would not surprise me.
I've only been on here for a few weeks and l've been educated loads. In fact, i've got that into logging on and reading posts - I cant remember what I used to do before I joined the forum ?

I think the fakers already know what their product looks like and what a real one looks like; they really don't need us to point it out...

But as long as there are uneducated buyers out there who want to believe they can save a few bucks by searching auction sites for a "good buy", they have no reason to change to better quality.

It's members on sites like this one who freely give their knowledge to the novice that has made it harder for fakers to sell their wares..

Without going too far astray here but...There are forums with many more members than our small group that cater to the replica collector and buyer that probably help out the fake business far more than we could ever do.

Tools is spot on. It is not the fakers, it is the fake buyers who compound the issue.

As a former replica collector here is what is seldome mentioned on this board but mentioned in great detail on the rep boards. All replicas, from Rolex to Patek's, are made in a small area in China, not Switzerland or anywhere near it. They have huge factories that make millions of fakes a year. They do not want to make a perfect copy of anything, why? Because they want the replica buyer to keep buying the copies that get closer to genuine so they can make more money. They all vary in their flaws from maker to maker, dealers get a new tooled one every other year or so that is closer here and flawwed there but they (the Chinese) will never tool a dead nuts replica because once they do they will stop buying. This replica trade goes way WAY deeper than most of you can imagine. If anyone has questions you can always PM me. I would rather not go into a lot of detail in the general forum to keep Google searches from honing in on the threads.

When I believe it is educational, I post information about how to tell fakes from real ones, but if I get the feeling that the threadstarter is a faker him or herself, I would tend to not post that info. It is not easy to judge if the person asking or posting is genuinely concerned about the authenticity of a specific Rolex, or if the questions are just a way to get to now more about making better fakes.

Also, it is easy to say "It's a FAKE", but the one getting the news would naturally also want to know WHY it is a fake.

Of course fakers are watching here, and you cannot prevent that, but then again, if you have the feeling that the poster himself is one of those fakers, better just let it be.
