I would say they have a great knowledge of fashion as they are mostly impecable, specially Charles. They are surrounded by the best designers and tailors in the UK, and perhaps the world. Just about everything from hat to shoes is made-to-measure. |

I watched the Intimate Biography on the Queen a few days ago. She is quite an interesting lady.
As far as sports watches with formal attire are concerned, I wouldn't combine the two simply because the sleeves don't settle right unless the shirt cuffs are abnormally large. Also, one cuff ends up about 1/4 inch out of the jacket and the other ends up not poking out at all when my hands are at my side. People can do whatever they want really, and nowadays a lot of people seem to wear sport watches with suits. I suppose the "old school" thing would be for them not to wear watches at all to that event, since one is not supposed to be concerned with time during a celebration... |

I read about Prince Harry in the papers all the time and I really doubt he cares about fashion. I'm not saying that in a negative way but he doesn't seem like the type. In all the photos I've seen of him at non official events he always seems like more of a dress down person (again not saying that's bad). I highly doubt he does anything other than show up to the tailor appointment when he's told and endure throughout. My Mum and Gran were just telling me how he looked like he was falling asleep the whole time today. |

Just a few days ago my aunt said this to my cousin "you're really good at handing assignments in on time aren't you ?". Now without knowing her tone how do you know if my cousin is or isn't good at it ? Notice how she didn't have to wait a few seconds and go "No you are really bad". It's ironic when someone keeps their watch in a safe and babies it. He then takes it out for a special event and falls down the stone stairs and smashes it. Nobody that knows him needs to say "you smashed your watch even though you baby it all the time". The irony is there for all to see. You get what irony means right ? It means the opposite is true. When QC said "I'm sure you will be missed" he meant the opposite So "the fact is" my uncle is right ? Or "the Royal family have proved him" right (which they can't because they are doing the opposite) ? Those are the only opposites I see to what you said. Admitting you were wrong in what you said by calling me "wrong" in a matter of opinions and in saying the Royal family prove things is more tactful then trying to blame it on irony and run. Especially when you did such a bad job of blaming it on irony. |

I don't understand this post. What were you looking for from the thread ? You saw the Explorer on the balcony. You got the "Queen is good vs. Queen is bad" argument that always comes up. What did you want us to post ?

I'm not trying to "run"; I am, however, conscious that our intellectual standpoints are polarised and so I suspect that I am wasting my time. I am also mindful that the 'thread creep' here and our opposing views are almost certainly reaching the limits of our good Mods' tolerances and, therefore, let us agree to agree and be joyful that our young Royals have such superb tastes in wristwatches!

I've seen pics with Harry in military garb wearing his Exp42 - a true tool watch. |

Intellectual standpoints ? Anyone who thinks saying "the fact is he's wrong" then later saying "there is no wrong" falls under the purview of Irony is wrong in my view. See irony has a definition (unlike when is it ok to wear a sports watch?) and I think what you did misses it. Any one who believes to the contrary can let me know. I agree that we should let it go now. Mainly because my girlfriend just said "I don't think I can go out with one of those guys who gets into fights on the internet". Also I suspect you're right about the mods stepping in. Good day |

Someone once said, "Confident men create their own style and in their own time.". In the meantime, we can agree to disagree and respect each others opinion. I'll continue to confidently wear my Rolex sports watches to all occasions. Just call me a dummy I guess

Agree. The best example of this was probably Gianni Agnelli.

Slagging of the British monarchy isn't something that abides by the rules of TRF. We don't allow political discussion simply because it ends badly with members getting over heated and ultimately being banned. Nothing to do with any particular views of the admin here. Just a peacekeeping decision. I'd appreciate it if you respected that from now on. On the subject: I actually find it touching that William wears the watch his mother gave him everywhere and through any occasion. She chose him a specific time piece and it suits him so well. Each time he looks at his wrist he spends time with her memory I'd imagine. Harry has his exp II on with his army fatigues in a pic recently I believe...now in full dress. Quite the statement from him. As for the inapporopriateness ...well I hear that also. But I also like that they are making their own statements here. Says something about them both that I like.
