Horror Story

Hello TRF!! I'm writing to ask you all to please keep an eye out for my DJ that was stolen, and also to advise everyone to be very careful when trying to sell their watches. I was "sold" my DJ on friday the 13th of April this year to a guy in Dallas. His name was obviously fake and the whole story screams scam but for some odd reason I proceded on. I shipped the watch UPS c.o.d. to a man who contacted me from my add on craigslist (famous last words ). I called UPS and they assured me that the watch would not be delivered until I was paid. Long story short, I was mailed a fake cashiers check ten days later and UPS will not cover a dime. I reported the watch stolen to Rolex and have filed a police report. I have done all I can do, short of reaching out to all of you fine people. So please, keep an eye out and be careful!

Here is some info Model: 16220 Serial: F067965

Who ships anything before payment clears ? I sold my first thing online at 18 and even then I wouldn't of done this.

I'm sorry this happened to you but it really is a rookie mistake. I'll keep a look out.

Thats too bad

The older I get - the more I hear stories like this & people just ripping other people off. Hope the "buyer" gets his just desserts in the end

Oy.......terrible news. Here's to hoping something turns out for the better. If you had the watch on your insurance, maybe it will cover it? As you technically hadn't "sold" it?

we have a similar system here in Spain. The recipient has to pay cash to the post man in order to receive the package. If the system is the same there, why would they have accepted any other than C.O.D. the C stands for cash!, not cheques, order, or anything else????

It was a cashiers check. Cash was not an option unfortunately.

They said ups doesnt hold it's drivers accountable for being able to identify whether a check is real or not.

Yep. I agree 100%, and I wish that more people(like you) would just sympathize without giving 'free' advice or piling on. You think the OP doesn't feel bad enough already?
