What is the greatest risk your Rolex faces?

I run an I.T. department at a dot com, so I think the easiest way to damage my watch would be reaching into server and telecom racks. There are a lot of sharp edges and exposed screws. Best to just put it in my pocket then.

I once had my Seiko bracelet fail while paying a toll. Oddly, I caught it on the way down.

Also in IT, those racks are deadly....

But my last band failure (forget the brand, cheap) was actually on an airplane... caught on the seat pocket in front of me. just glad it didn't fail during the trip.

No specific risks, just general carelessness on my part. Bumping it into things on occasion.

My profession demands that I take my watch off multiple times during the day....for procedures and that sort of thing.

I always keep it on me, usually in my front pocket under all the lead (to block radiation). One time when I went to bend over to put my shoe covers on, the watch slipped out and fell to the floor. Luckily all was OK.

I now make it a point to remove my watch right only right before I put my lead on, and put my shoe covers on after the lead, so the watch is more secure.

Wonder if anyone have their oyster bracelet failed on them while crossing in between ships?

I work in an environment where there are lots of metal racks. Haven't had a bump ever since the first day I got my SD and I'm still planning for 0 casualties.

pol, may I ask in what you work, since it is related with radiation? :p

My watch probably live in the worst and most dangerous enviroment. One full of those things: Period

For reaching in the racks, delegate. A bonus for running the place.

My biggest risk is clasp scratches from the desk surface, while keyboarding all day (I'm currently in InfoSec)

I work at Lowes.

The greatest risk -- basically reaching anything that's on either the far left or right of the rack; i.e. bumping the rack w/ the watch when trying to retreive an item.

"pol, may I ask in what you work, since it is related with radiation?"

I'm a cardiologist...so its in at out of the cath lab on a daily basis. Which means its off and on with the watch. Some guys just leave theirs laying around...I just can't do that. For me its in the left upper pocket of my scrubs under the protective lead.

Never thought about the radiation's effect on the watch though...I've been doing it for years without much harm, so I guess its ok.

Indeed! Here is a pic of an SD that was involved in a motorcycle crash. It is not a Photoshop job!

I seem to remember having read that the driver survived, and well so did the SD, but it sure looks battered now, doesn't it?!

EXACTLY what I was going to reply, Tom!

Buying a new Rolex could make my previous favourite Rolex "second choice"

Every day presents different hazards, but desk scrape seams to be the worst. I wear it all the time and never really notice when scratch it, so it has to be the desk!
