We should all be allowed to work from home! Plus, I hear that it can even hit $100/barrel soon.
Hydrogen fuel researchers, speed up your work please!!!

The recent rhetoric on the US news channels seems to be warming us up for a little stomp around Iran.
$1,000 a gallon soon. Where's my bike?

If it wasn't for the snow here during the winter months, I'd use my bicycle to go to work!

Funny, after Katrina hit pump prices went through the roof, though crude was relatively low. Now it's the reverse. Something doesn't sound right.
My car uses 4.7L per 100Km in actual driving (50mpg). $6/gal should help my 3 hour round trip commute; with less traffic. Heh, neat link: http://www.northshorecity.govt.nz/?s...ectric_car.htm

Guess the cheapest source of Hydrogen? Ans: Natural Gas
Might as well burn natural gas directly, probably more efficient in a total energy calculation. Plug-In Hybrid cars are the way. Most of the benefits of pure electric, with no downside with range or cold temps.

Its political season over here and our liberal biased media continues to stir the pot against our President and the Republican Party by spinning most all news here in the USA to the left as long as it benefits the Democratic Party agenda! My 2 cents worth !!! |

Gas has been around $1.00/litre here in Ontario for a while now. It hiccuped up to around $1.25 for a couple of months post-Katrina. Interesting that North America seems to lean toward hybrid vehicles, whereas Europe has embraced diesel.

Here in the USA this is how a $2.85 /gal breaks down
So you can see how the price of petro will rise with the rising cost of Crude Oil. IMHO, Hydrogen, natural gas , propane, ethanol, solar, etc are all required technologies but the easiest and quickest to reduce fuel usage is just good old fashioned ... CONSERVATION |

And smaller cars as well. I would guess it's more about the cost of fuel/range where we in NA generally have a much cheaper fuel, but higher requirements for pollution controls. Diesels put out quite a bit of particulates and NOx, and the US had some pretty horrible diesel tech on the roads in the 80's, which turned some people off.

Diesel prices in particular have been skyrocketing here in the US. I'm seeing prices of $3.50 gal. and higher while unleaded remains around $2.73. <smug alert> I drive a TDI which is a turbo diesel and I get about +50 mpg but...</smug alert> We diesel users see this every fall when 'resources' are reallocated to making heating oil, etc. Modern diesels (like mine) run very clean anymore. Especially w/the new Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) now mandated. Considering I use half the fuel most others do per mile (or so), particulates or not (NOX), overall emissions (especially HCO and CO2) are very low. In addition, I can (and do) run bio-diesel which severs Middle East dependency and supports local agriculture and jobs. HCO and CO2 levels drop even further and rival, if not beat, most gas fed machines.
Regardless, diesels are not viewed as 'green' cars and, despite their incredible efficiency and mileage, will probably never gain much popularity here in the US. Now a diesel/electric hybrid would be an incredible combination. Despite the black eye's (70's-80's GM products) and perceptions of diesel technology, it has made incredible strides in the last 10 years or so. Today's diesel engine is a pretty amazing and viable alternative to gas and ethanol blend vehicles. Getting 750 miles per tank (14.5 gal) of fuel is a pretty compelling argument, despite the disproportionately high pricing. Rambling aside, diesel prices have been the highest I've ever seen them lately, in advance of the forthcoming gas price increases. What's up with that? The bad thing is, you pay twice as the cost of goods also suffer from high fuel pricing. Both trucking and rail rely on diesel and, ultimately, the end customer always pays. Sorry for the diesel diatribe but I think modern diesel technology gets the short end of the stick and deserves a closer look and more development. Did I mention that diesel is more environmentally 'friendly' to produce and yield is better per barrel of crude? Never mind... I'll put a cork in it now

Duanwaun, I would rather continue to pay for high gas prices if getting lower gas prices meant Hillary as President, due to all the other issues she would raise.
In reality, Gas prices in the USA, comparatively are about the same price as they were 20 years ago. People that are ignorant like to blame Bush or the War on rising Gas prices, but the truth is alot of the rising Gas prices has a lot more to do with the economic growth of China. Maybe with higher Gas prices, this will cause consumers to not buy things that are not needed, and learn to walk when they can instead of using the car. Unfortunately the infrastructure/weather in many parts of the USA is not made for pedestrians or bicycle travel. |

This is actually quite funny to read.
In Finland we pay gas 1.3euros/litre, approx. 9$/gallon. So it's quite equal with U.K pricing. |

You may have already suspected from somewhere this my one hobby is motor sleds.
My sled takes from 6.5 to 8 gallons per hour. Of course it needs to be higher octane than regular, which is certainly more costly than that 9$/gallon. It also needs 2-stroke oil mixed to this PRECIOUS gas. When we get snow here, there is a nice tornado going through my wallet.. We are on our way to the Mad Max world! |

Ohh if you open a topic and complain so in my country we should leave our millions of cars on the ways, ( it must be done ) here tax is %600 can you believe???? No you can not believe it is incredible. 1 lt oil is (95) 2.86 YTL which is 2.5 USD which 1 galoon is about 7.5-8 USD here. I pay about 40 USD for oil a week and I can go just 180km max a week here. Instead of complaining better to see from positive sides when others suffering half around the world.
