Tourneau and Baron & Leeds (South Coast Plaza - Orange Co)

I was walking through South Coast Plaza mall today and visited both the Rolex flagship store by Baron & Leeds and Tourneau.

I had a great experience at Baron & Leeds. Great conversation with the sales associate. Very nice guy. Tried on a RG Daytona. Never discussed price as I knew they won't deal enough on price. He mentioned to me in our conversation that they have already received two Sub C no dates a few week back, but sold them immediately. Overall great experience.

Then I walked over to Tourneau. I know this location lost its authorization to sell Rolex, but figured I would see what pre-owned Rolex they had in the case. So I see a SS white dial Daytona, M serial, with old clasp. Knowing that they ask crazy high prices I asked the sales associate what they have the watch listed at. She replies $14,100 with box and papers. I almost fainted.

I tried on that same SS Daytona a month ago. Same price. Guess no one bit on that "deal" yet.

Fun rolex store to visit but there aren't any discounts to be had at SC Plaza. Jewlers on Time in Newport has a pretty good selection and great prices. Traditional Jewlers in Fashion Island has a good selection of Rolex, Patek, AP, ALS, Panerai, etc and have some very knowledgable sales staff.

Similar piece in NJ going for the same thing. I asked why so much. Manager gives me the Daytona song and dance. I tell him that what over years ago and I can get five overnighted to me if I wanted. He promptly started ignoring me.

Will never deal with Tourneau.

Torneau is a waste - back in 2010 and before, they would usually give a 20% discount on Rolexes.

Now I was told that they are not allowed to discount anything. But..... they will offer a discount of 10-20% as a "credit" for another purchase.

It's recycling the discount in their already high prices!

I assume no one or a very mis-informed buyer who does not know these are real easy to get now.

Due to the high asking price I asked what they would pay to buy a preowned one. Figured I would ask just to see what they would say. I wanted to get them to expalin why the huge mark up. They offer $7k for the same watch when buying. I asked why the 100% mark up and they said it was due to high rent in South Coast Plaza. I love putting these jokers on the spot.

The location in Dallas lost its authorization as well, not surprised. Atleast they sell Bremont. Not a bad brand.

Glad I am not craving a Daytona. A few years ago, I had a nice visit to a torneau but was only there to look. They were accommodating, friendly and the sales person was knowledgeable. My family ended up having to wait a bit as his guy and I talked watches.

Not all Tourneaus are ADs or have ever sold Rolex. I don't know about the specific location you are taking about. I know many on here complain about them but the two locations next to me are great and they do sell A LOT of watches. I always enjoy stoping by and checking out their collections as they usually have tons to look at and a pretty helpful staff. Guess it just depends on the location and the salesperson.

I have a similar experience at South Coast Plaza. Went to Tourneau to try a Panerai and ended up buying the Explorer II at Baron & Leeds. Big difference in service, I had visited the Baron & Leeds three previous times prior to buying from them and they always treated me great. My first visit to the store was for them to look at a Rolex that I was buying from a forum seller and they checked the watch out and told me it was a great watch. I will definitely recommend this store.
