6202 monometer

One TRF member asked me for a picture of my 6202. May as well post it here as a reference to the Turn-o-graph variant.

I bought this in 1994 without a bezel. It took me a lot of time to find an aftermarket bezel.

What a wonderful piece of Rolex history!

That watch pre-dates the Sub, and eventually morphed into the Turn-o-Graph.

From NewTurfers:

"The 6202 Monometer was initially destined to be what the Submariner has now become. Rolex named their first true diving watch "Monometer" after an instrument used for measure depths. Within a few months Rolex had come up with a slightly chunkier more robust case incorporating a user friendly bezel and so called it the the "Submariner". At this point the Monometer was relegated to "Turn-o-Graph" status and so it has remained."

P.S. You really need an old, faded bezel insert on that watch to match its character.

Yes I know. I saw an original 6202 bezel set years ago in Ebay asking for $2000. Thats too much for me. It is more than what I paid for the watch.

Lovely watch but the bezel looks so out of place.

Hmm.... do you want to sell that raggedy old thing?

BTW, I KNEW I'd seen a Rolex with a lollipop second hand before, just couldn't remember where. Now I know at least one refernce that used it.

I think it is there. That member had a similar 6202 with similar hands.

As for selling, not for the time being. It brings back memories as I spent a lot of time tracking down a bezel without the help of the internet in those days.

There are AM bezels on eBay nowadays.... $65.90 ... http://cgi.ebay.com/BEZEL-INSERT-ROL...item5d26abbf8a

Nice watch though an original bezel would be nicer!

No I am in Sydney.

I saw another bezel listed here. But GBP $1000 is still a bit dear for me.

thats a shame............

you will be the best judge of value but IMO tend to notice that if a rare model goes up over time in value, the key visual parts ie bezel, dials and hands sometimes goes up disproportionately........

A quick update on this. I finally bought a bezel with insert from Andrew Shear today. Transaction has not completed yet. Will post new pictures once I got it.

Here it is..the hairlines are dust on the surface of the plexi which I did not see when taking the picture.. It is not a complete package yet as I do not have the correct bracelet.

This is slightly bigger than boy size and smaller than a sub, about the same as Air King.. So it is ok...

fantastic watch and the start of history of subs

And you got a good deal on the 6202. Inserts are like hens teeth and usually if you find a nice one close to 3K for bezel and insert. Still a wonderful piece. M

Wow!! A great way to complete a rare watch. I think 6202's are VERY undervalued! Phenomenal piece
