New Post - Vintage Red Sub

Hello, I'm a member of a number of forums (cycling, triathlon, chainsaws (!)), but new to TRF. So, Hello!

I purchased this Single Red Sub new in 1972. I recall that I had it serviced once for a new crystal, and may have replaced the bracelet (although it still has a 9315 on it).

When my Dad passed several years ago, the watch stopped and I put it away. Now I'm ready to let it go and move on toward my own retirement. I stopped by TRF to get familiar and maybe get some advice on who to talk to and deal with. Thanks for listening...

If I posted the pictures wrong, someone please point me to the instructions. Thanks again...

That's quite a first post you have there. As you may already know, you have a watch that is sought after by many, especially here on this forum.

Thanks for posting, and Please post more pictures...

Thanks. My Dad (who would be 105 if he were still with us) always made me save the boxes and paperwork for EVERYTHING. Guess it's gonna pay off.

Anyway, interesting story on this watch. My mother, always a traveler, went on a group trip to Switzerland in 1972. She called back one night and said she was going to the Rolex factory and would we (my brother and I) want a Rolex? Heck, I was 17 and didn't know a Rolex from a Rolodex. But I said, "Sure, how much?" As I recall, she paid $110 for the Submariner and brought it home. That was a Friday afternoon, and my older brother (19) and I and some buddies were going to the lake that evening. Anyway, we loaded up the boat and beer and headed to the lake. Along the way, we chewed tobacco and drank beer and got a bit toasted. So, I decided to take a shower at the campground. Not wanting to get my new watch wet (Duh! it was a Submariner), I took it off and placed it on top of the shower wall. Being somewhat inebriated, nay drunk, I forgot about it. Needless to say, it was gone when I went back for it. Boy, was I going to get a lickin' when we got home! So, I faked it when we got home and Monday morning I cleaned out my bank account and borrowed what I could and went down to AMC, a local discount/department store (sort of like a Gibsons or very early Walmart-type store) at 10th and Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City. They had a jewelery department there, and I found a replacement Rolex (the one pictured) for $245. Mom and Dad never knew until I told them just a year or so before they passed. Whew, got that off my chest. So that's how I came to own the Red Sub you see in the pics. Thanks for reading...

Here's a lot of pictures of the watch and accessories:

Welcome to TRF.

Pieces with the full package like this don't come up very often and there is usually a rush to be the first one to buy it.

My advice would be to get the movement serviced and to hold on to it.
What better memories could you ask for :)

I thought that might happen, and I've already received a few PM's. I am going to let the set go, but I'm not going to give it away. However, I have posted a lot of pictures on Mediafire, see the link above.
