Help Identifying, Rolex Date (1500?)

Hey guy's, big Rolex guy but much more so modern... Have this older Rolex Oyster Date from my grandfather, and need some help identifying it's year/ref (I know without serial ,ust an approximate) or I can take the bracelet off..

Looks to be from research a 15000, since it has the hack feature and quick set date function. It's all original, never been serviced, etc.. I have checked out pic's of other 15000's however and the lume dots behind the indices seem to be farther spaced than others seen? I'm sure there are just endless variations however from year to year, watch to watch.

Thanks guy, I can take more pic's to further explore

Martin

Is the crystal sapphire or plastic?? Is it's plastic it's a ref.1500 and would be from the 60's to the 70's, if it's sapphire, it's a ref.15000 thus 1980's

Ohhh hrm, it does have acrylic, but from what I've read 1500's didn't have hack feature or quick set date? Interesting. , thanks for the help would love to find out more

Just use a push pin and pop the band off and the number at 6 is the serial (will date the watch) and the number a 12 is the reference (1500 or 15000).

I think that's a 1500. I found a serviced 1500, just when I started working. It'll probably be gone, by the time I get the funds!

Michael I am going to do that soon, thanks, I'll post up pics :)

Adam, let me know when you might want to buy one if it's gone, I'm going to send this in for servicing.. Im so torn however, it's beautiful/classy and classic Rolex, most of all my grandfathers !

The piece however is just way too small for me, I mean, I will never honestly wear it!! It doesn't have any real sentimental value to me except again that it was my grandfathers of whom passed before I was even born... But then again I was named after him, just mixed emotions on what to do with it

Okay guy's, Michael thanks for the tips... I took the band off (damn it's filthy/disgusting) in between the end links lol, and the whole thing... But that's to be expected

It's a 15000, and serial R 393 842 making it between 73' and 74'... Very cool !

Now, next step is to think about what to do with it..

Do I get it serviced and polished up? Keep it in it's vintage form and keep it since it was my grandfathers, perhaps sell it or trade towards something i'd wear? Hrm

Any dealers that would take it in and give me a nice deal for another piece?

Thanks guys here are some pic's

I would keep it as a dressy watch, it's discreet and very classy.

Very nice to have family heirlooms! The serial makes that watch a 1987 and with a good clean and service it will run for years and years!

I may, hrm. I rather have an oyster bracelet for it however, where could I get one for this? What do you think?

Yes very cool, this popped up out of nowhere lol. I always thought reading stories on the forum about other family treasures, and thought wow , my family doesn't have anything interesting really despite their affluence in the old day...

How did you get that to be a 1987? I checked the chart and it said.. EDIT oops , I see it say's 1987 R 000,000 .. Got confused

Oyster bracelet would look good but the jubilee also looks great, I think it should look fantastic when you wear suite or a tux.
