Omega Seamaster or Rolex Submariner

So today while out seeing Spider-Man (great reboot BTW) I tried on these bad boys











And I must say that my hearts a little broken.

As much as I wanted a DateJust it's really not the watch for me. It has plenty of bling but it just didn't feel right.

I listened to your suggestions and tried on the Submariner and the Sea Dweller. At first I didn't care about any other Rolex besides the DJ but now I want a Sub or SD REAL BAD!! Preferablly the Dweller because it is larger but I'd be happy with either.

BUT..

That Planet Ocean.. That watch is a PROBLEM! I loved it! I went in having my mind already made up about going Rolex but after trying on the Planet Ocean I'm stuck.

I loved the weight of the PO. The Rolex feel extremely light on me wrist but the PO felt like it was there. Not heavy but it's almost feel like my wrist is naked when wearing the Rolex, well at least the Sub. But with that said the feel of the Rolex is something I could get used to, it's just a different feeling than what I'm used to. I guess the PO felt more familiar to my wrist. But man am I in a conundrum.

I have the money to get a slightly used or even new PO right now but probably not for a used SUB or SD. All three are great watches but I would hat the feeling of regret of buying the PO just because I can definitely afford one and later on kick myself in the but for not waiting and getting one of the Rolex. I may not regret it but I don't know if I'm ready to make that gamble.

If anyone has both your thoughts on this would be useful.

Have any of you went from a Rolex to a PO or PO to Rolex?

How was it? What was your reasoning?

For those who tried on both what made you buy or fall for the watch you own or want to own?

Have you still not tried on the 41mm DJ II (2) like everyone suggested? Because in your pics, that is still just the standard 36mm.

Other than the DJ, I have had the watches you tried on, you can see from my sig what I have now.

IMHO, nothing compares to the comfort of the PO. Plus it's a really (finally for Omega) a real limited edition. But I have had a few 2500 coaxial po's also. They all felt great. I'm glad I'm blessed enough to have both, but you can't go wrong with a po.

All depends on what you want though regardless of all our opinions.

Although it is a great watch, wearing a Rolex opens more doors.

I like the subs but it is a very common watch.

I am liking even more the GMT's. More rare and with the ceramic - perfect choice!

The first two lines..... WILD. Comments like this really blows my mind. Rolex is not the king of the world and does not open more doors. What doors are you referring to? Like aroom full of naked women asking to see your Rolex watch... Lol.

Let's be realistic - when dealing with the public, it is usually good to be characterized as wealthy or of power. People tend to begin dealing with you at floor #2 rather than the lobby.

Be it a judge, a boss, a client, a prospect, anyone - the unspoken assumption of wealth usually can only help.

If you are able to enjoy nice things, HOPEFULLY you have earned them ligitimatley and are worthy of respect.

Now - items do not earn respect, you earn the right to be respected based on personality.

But remember this, you eat with your eyes 1st - in food and judging people as well!

The Day Date just isn't working for me. I love the look but my wrist felt like it was going to swallow the watch.

well i got a the Omega Seamaster Diver and the Rolex DSSD.. I only use the Omega when the cuff is to tight 4 the rolex.. they are not even close..

One of my favourite features of the Rolex is the triple lock crown. The crown on the Omega feels flimsy in comparison. Rolex has a superior bracelet and clasp. No micro adjustment on the Omega and despite now using end screws the bracelet links still ride on pins. Both movements are COSC. The Rolex is tried and tested. Not pretty but very robust. The Omega 8500 is technically superior but time will tell whether it is more durable and reliable.

Looking at the wrist shots I would have to say that, as much as I love Omegas, the DSSD simply screams 'quality'.

I have an old Seamaster and it's my everyday watch but the hands on the new PO look clunky to me whereas the Rolex hands ooze class. I have a new SubC LV and when I'm going out for the evening the Omega stays at home I'm afraid.

I'm going to say get the PO first, then save for the DSSD. The alternative would be only to speed the process by flipping the PO, if you don't love it.

OP: Get the watch that you like best. The models you are looking at are all great and, in the end, when you find out that watches are not the key to a woman's fun parts, you'll at least have a great timepiece.

You'd do fine with either DSSD or PO/8500 in 45mm for no other reason than having a fine time piece. Buy the one that sings to you the most. Period.

Another vote for the DSSD. Everything already said about the size, heft & presence holds true. That said, I love the PO and gave it serious consideration. Eventually I decided I like the DSSD more and will add a PO somewhere down the line. Both are awesome to me--good luck with your decision.

Now being honest I want one of two (three if you include the DJ) for all the evil of owning one. I want to be flashy. I want to be seen. I want it to be noticed. I want to go to a club and a woman who knows her style to see my watch and know what I'm about. I want it to get respect. I want to be apart of the exclusive expensive watch club. I want to be popular among those who know their watches. I want to use the watch for evil and naughty things (Just being truthful)

It's going to be one of these watches. Can someone tell me which they feel is the best watch and why? I'm not talking about the best watch for my look but for all the reasons stated above.

Sounds like you need some self confidence.. If you think any watch is going to make you get noticed or be a better person you have issues. If you are looking for respect, by simply wearing a certain watch, there in lies the problem. Buy and wear what feels comfortable. Don't choose by what the name is...

Whoa, I have self confidence but out there in the real world people do judge you by certain standards. I drive a Genesis and a Infiniti M45 because of the presence it brings compared to a Charger or Camaro sitting on 24 inch rims or an Escalade on 32s (the typical stereotype)

Not playing the race card but you get a different reaction when doing something that's not stereotypical. I get plenty of compliments about the cars I drive. I like the respect I get. People are shocked when they see a mid 20 year old with the mindset of knowing quality. I wear Louie and Gucci and fitted suits. I need a watch that goes with that.

It appears a Rolex or Omega will fit my style. It seems their both watches that someone "uptown" will look and give you that nod or look of respect. That's what I'm about. I have confidence. But to say that a watch or other things you wear doesn't symbolize your confidence or that people who see you walking past won't look at you and judge you by, in this case the watch you wear is a lie, we all know that. With the right watch you could literally be a bum but someone sees the kind of watch you have on and they'll think twice about you.

I feel a watch is the most essential part of your look. Rather it's a suit and tie or even hoop shorts with a fitted tee the watch you wear is more likely to define the person you are in someone else mind which may lead them to be more open to say something to you or approach you in a certain manner.

Now to go along with one member said, I'm going for a day and night watch as well. Now plenty of you have said they feel I'm buying a watch for the wrong reasons or that the girls I'm looking for won't even notice the watch or brand is untrue. Now I said the reason for wanting the watch for night time wear is because like I said, I do like attention especially if I'm at the club. I give women plenty of credit in that they know a good watch from the swap shop watch. I get plenty of attention with ladies but I have seen straight losers (speaking cause I know them, not on appearance) get girls as well, but a lot have had a nice watch. I'm not saying I'd go to bed with any woman who notices my watch, I'm just saying I want to play mind games with women more. Make them think that cause they notice my watch I'm leaving with them. It's just an attention thing. I weed out the good from the bad on my own. This I know

I will admit I originally was going with a DJ because I assumed that it was THE ROLEX but after joining these sites and reading through threads that the bling of the DJ wasn't it, It's the style and prestige of the Subs, DSSD, GMT that are the real Rolex. The style of them grew on me to wear a DJ doesn't even appear in the equation anymore. The Omega PO is. And I like them equally. I'm just trying to get as much insight on these watches as possible before I make a choice which is why I stated my reasoning for wanting a watch.

But a good watch is the most essential piece of a man's daily wear. I'm just trying to decide if Rolex Sub, DSSD (sorry DJ) are the way to go, or should I go Omega PO.

It sounds like you're going for a classy look. Unfortunately it seems like what you're actually looking like, is arrogant, immature, low self esteem (masquerading as confidence), and in general, un-classy. True class goes hand in hand with humility and kindness, traits you're perhaps hiding very well from us. :) A classy person treats others with respect, whether they're wearing a Rolex or a Timex. A person who has class doesn't really care what watch another person wears, because he's interested in assessing the quality of the person, not his stuff. You're trying rather desperately to impress with "stuff", which is a telltale sign deep down you feel it's all you have that's impressive. Trust me, there's more to you than your stuff, in fact your stuff has almost nothing to do with who you are or what you have to offer. These are things you'll hopefully learn as you get a little older.

I also have some bad news, very few normal people will know what your watch is, let alone judge you by it, those who do aren't people you should want to be with. Some extremely smart and successful people wear a $50 watch, and conversely, many wear a nice watch, or drive a flashy car while they're drowning in debt. Appearances are just that, appearances. There's a word for judging people based on appearances and not substance.

But, I wouldn't worry too much about all this, in 20 years you'll look back at how silly it all was, trying to impress or control people with material things.

And if not, then you weren't paying attention for those 20 years.
