Omega Seamaster or Rolex Submariner
I went to my local Rolex dealer here in Seattle. I've had my heart set on a Rolex DateJust and wanted to see how it looked on me before buying one on here and I must say.. THAT WATCH IS SMALL!
Now maybe it could be cause I'm used to bigger watches. I have a Bulova Precionist and I-Gucci as my main watches but my Gucci was bigger than even the Submariner. I'm knew to the whole HIGHER watch class but I wasn't really expecting the DJ to be that small. Now maybe it's me (I'm 6ft 240lbs, built like a football player) to why it seemed so small but I really was just shocked about the size. I tried on multiple watches. I never really cared much for the Submariner but after trying it on, and the Deep Sea, I really grew quite fond of them in the mere matter of moments that I had it on, so much that I'm thinking of switching up. While at the store I was told that I should check out the Seamaster if I was going to go the Submariner route. The person said it was a comparable watch and that I may like it better. Now being honest I want one of two (three if you include the DJ) for all the evil of owning one. I want to be flashy. I want to be seen. I want it to be noticed. I want to go to a club and a woman who knows her style to see my watch and know what I'm about. I want it to get respect. I want to be apart of the exclusive expensive watch club. I want to be popular among those who know their watches. I want to use the watch for evil and naughty things (Just being truthful) It's going to be one of these watches. Can someone tell me which they feel is the best watch and why? I'm not talking about the best watch for my look but for all the reasons stated above. Go for the Sub, the Seamaster may be technically as good (maybe even better) but the sub has more presence, more bling, more adventure, speaks of a bigger wallet (if thats what you're after).....and style IMHO.

Come on player, a watch can't do all those things for you. Your personality, your swagger, and your looks overall will carry you much further than the watch. That being said I still say go for the Sub :) |

The new Seamaster Pro isn't really on the same level as the Sub, but the new Planet Ocean with their in-house movement is one of the finest dive watches available right now, and, in my opinion, is better than the Sub. The Sub has got a lot of things right, the bracelet and clasp are both market leaders, but I find the gloss ceramic makes it a little shiny for a dive watch, and the movement is outdated.
The Planet Ocean, meanwhile, is the watch that will restore Omega's reputation as a premier high-end luxury brand. The build quality is superb, the matt dial/matt bezel combination is lovely, comes with double the warranty of the Rolex, and costs significantly less. The movement is where the Planet Ocean steals the show, though. It's beautifully decorated (and viewable through a sapphire crystal caseback), has Omega's exclusive Co-Axial technology (which is proving itself to be mindbogglingly accurate, and increases service intervals - Omega conservatively quotes 5-7 years, but it should be closer to 10, compared to the 3-5 on the Rolex) and a bigger power reserve. Basically, your watch will run better for longer - the 20 year old movement in the Rolex has no chance to compare. As you're a big guy, the size might swing it for you - the Planet Ocean has a choice of two sizes, a 42mm (roughly the same as the 40mm Submariner) and a 45.5mm. I can pull off the 45.5mm, and my wrist is almost certainly smaller than yours. If you want to impress people who don't know about watches, get the Rolex; if you want to impress people who do know about watches, get the Omega Chris |

Agreed - the PO is a good comparison to the SubC - but clasp on the SubC and not likking the hands on the PO makes the SubC just that much better IMO.
I chose the SubC as my everyday watch. |

Go with the Sub
I personally don't think a watch will get you everything you are hoping for but it is probably the most recognizable Rolex model..

as eric says, how 'bout the DJII? my personal favorite is the blue sticks dial. or, as chris mentioned, consider the PO 8500 against the sub, as they are more directly comparable.
good luck with the hunt! |

1. Assuming that a woman is even going to notice what watch you're wearing ( highly doubtful but let's assume this is going to be the case and that she's no watch expert), you better get the Sub or DSSD or DJII. Bigger brand name and they're shiny!
2. If you're into watch quality and want a watch that mostly "those in the know" (i.e. watch enthusiasts) know about....then strongly consider what The GMT Master said up above. Quote:

For the most part, most women will notice a Rolex. Omega is less recognized by women who hang out in bars/clubs.

The sub gets my vote! However, the djII would be an excellent alternative.

Rolex is always going to make a bigger impression than Omega.
There is a lot of weight behind that name. So when your potential...uh.....whatever she is , looks at your watch as you casually check the time every five minutes, you can say, "This? Oh, just one of my Rolexes." (cue sound effect of panties hitting the floor) Job done. Thank you Rolex. |

If ur looking for all that...u will probably be let down with either. Most people will not even notice ur watch. And if it's a woman that notices and wants a piece of you, better not go to sleep with her as the watch might be gone when you wake up.
But what you like and you can't go wrong.

The Seamaster, although a quality time piece, is not on par with the Sub. The PO, however, is another story. However, I would need to qualify that and specify the new PO 8500 with the upgrade Omega movement. This is of course for those in the know - for your average person at the club, all they'll see is Omega.
But if you want attention, then get the Deep Sea. The sheer size of the watch and the fact its a Rolex will definitely get the attention you want. |

If you switch the discussion to the Planet Ocean 8500 and the DateJust II 41mm, I own all of the watches you are considering...
If you want people to instantly recognize your watch, and women in clubs to immediately notice you, then IMO there is no substitute for a Rolex. It is simply the most widely recognized luxury brand in the watch world. The PO will only turn heads of those "in the know." The 41mm Datejust II seems like a perfect fit if you like the style and design of the DJ. With the fluted WG bezel, it is the flashiest of the bunch and will definitely turn heads, but it also has all the ruggedness, durability and everyday comfort of any Rolex Oyster. When choosing between the Submariner and the PO, the clasp/bracelet on the Omega is the deal killer for me and would cause me to strongly recommend the Submariner. The Glidelock clasp, better solid end link fitment and lower profile case design results in a watch that is much more comfortable. With its glossy finish, the Submariner ceramic is also more flashy and less likely to "fly under the radar". In your original post, you said "I want to be flashy. I want to be seen. I want it to be noticed. I want to go to a club and a woman who knows her style to see my watch and know what I'm about. I want it to get respect. I want to be apart of the exclusive expensive watch club." I am sorry to say that the Omega simply will not be able to deliver in that regard. BTW...I will have to respectfully disagree with Chris (The GMT Master) regarding the vast disparity in movement quality. Yes, the Rolex movement has been out for a long time, and the new 8500 is much flashier looking and with the Coaxial escapement and Silicon hairspring, it certainly looks better on paper. But the bottom line (and ultimately the only thing that really matters to me) is how well the movement keeps time. My Rolex watches simply keep better time than either of my two PO 8500s and seem far less subject to positional variations. My LEAST accurate Rolex is +2 consistently in any position. Go with the Rolex:)

I own a Seamaster GMT and a Deepsea. They are both great watches. I just feel that somebody who doesn't know anything about watches would go for the PO ( I am basing that on a friend who has one and not on Chris (although he bought it from Chris' shop)). |

DJ2 is for you. Consider slapping on an aftermarket diamond dial.

Vintage 5513. Oh, wait, did I just hijack the thread!?!?!
I'd go SubC. Omega makes great watches, but any Sub is just too classic to pass up. V/R Mike
