Scam alert.... response to my WTB ad
This may not be new, but it was new to me.....
Had put a WTB ad here and a couple of other forums. Yesterday I received an email from "Andrew Shear" (for those of you who don't know, that is the name of the owner of ShearTime - a reputable vintage dealer) offering me watch I wanted. The email contained a description of the watch and a number of scans were included in a second email. I was not initially skeptical, but when I started to review the scans, I realized I had seen the scans before - on an offering from another legitimate dealer's website. Obviously downloaded by the scammer, and sent to me. A closer look at the email address revealed a generic [email protected]. Scam. Another sobering reminder to me just how careful you must be these days.

This tool has been using the real schears name for quite some time. The moment you ask him to send a photo with todays paper or something he stops talking to you

This and countless other stories reaffirm my belief that selling a Rolex is a million times more difficult than buying one. Rolexes are like little puppies and $$$ is not the bottom line for me. I want to find a good, honest home for them also, as though they were alive. Sounds a little crazy but for I bet for every 1 legit buyer out there, there are 10scammers trying to get it for free. So be very careful. I rather sell it for a little less knowing it is going to solid buyer than for a little more with buyer uncertain.

BTW, Andrew has told me he is aware of the scam, apparently he's been dealing with it for a while.

Who are these scammers? I'd love to meet one in person and let them know exactly what I think of them.
