My First Rolex -an OysterQuartz
i tried and tried to get a decent picture of this watch but i guess my photography skills are no match for most of you..i dont see many of these around..i guess they werent too popular..when i wear it, most people think its a fake because it has a quartz movement but it is a real rolex from the 80's...don't know much about the watch so feel free to shed some light on it. thought some of you might get a kick out of it. enjoy!

Looks good..
I would hang onto that if I were you..... The Oysterquartz 17013 is a rare watch. Rolex made their quartz watches with mechanical movements in them, so there are parts that need to be oiled and serviced. They also put sapphire crystals on them before the regular DateJusts, and Day Dates. Probably figured that they would be caught up in the quartz craze of the day.. Your watch has a legion of followers and it has yet to see it's day as a much sought after collectible.....but it's coming, I'll bet.. (I'm moving this to the General Rolex Forum for a bit because it's a model we don't get to discuss much, Hope you don't mind) |

I like the Quartz-Oysters, they are built tough. Here's a little history lesson for you. Rolex made the SS and TT Quartz cases first with Perpetual(automatic) movements before making them Quartz only models. Both of those models currently command premium $.

Does that say...
"Oyster Perpetual" or "Oyster Quartz" on the dial?

Yes, you're right!
There exists a Rolex Cal. 1530 that LOOKS like an OQ (same case) but would be a Perpetual. The Cal. 1530 has a special rehaut (chapter ring) with the minute markers on the rehaut instead of on the dial itself. So yes, it is strange that it says "Perpetual", since this is not a Cal. 1530. Maybe it has a normal DJ dial installed, but I wonder why RSC would allow that. Strange!

Your OysterQuartz looks like a beauty, to me they're great watches!
I had the one below for 3 days. I bought it because it was a 1979, pre COSC billboard on the dial. Sent it back because of a very poor bracelet repair job, and the scratch on the dial just below the coronet that didn't show up in the seller's pix because he positioned the hands to cover it. I still have a hankering for one, I love the integrated bracelet.

it's possible that the original OQ dial was switched out and replaced with the serti DJ dial.
