Icon20 What should Rolex crystals be like???

If you could change the design of the Rolex sapphire crystal, how should it look like?

In 2000, the Rolex Day-Date was updated, and got the model with SIX numbers, besides getting SOLID centre and SOLID end links (in fact, those were NOT solid before 2000, even though they LOOKED solid! ), polished lugs and an updated clasp, the SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL also received the update of becoming just slightly DOMED.

So should the DOMED crystal be on ALL Rolex models??

OR should the sapphire crystals be ANTIREFLECTION COATED??

OR maybe the cyclops should be UNDER the crystal, like on Ulysse Nardin and Panerai??

OR all crystals should be "Green etched" like on the special edition Milgauss?

What should Rolex crystals look like if you could decide?? Please state WHY!

Slightly domed and AR coated on the inside of the crystals. Like UN, Omega, Dubey, Vacheron and Panerai does. Much easier to veiw the time in direct sunlight or at night under glare or bright lights. Also fingerprints, smudges, and dust on dial is less visible.

The Crystals I had on my Omega, Panerai and UN were much better than my Rolex crystals.

I can't vote on this BO as I prefer the crystal to be left as it is.

Good poll! dont like the cyclops - ruins the symmetry of the face but a slight magnification under the crystal would be pretty cool!

I think the slightly domed crystal is a pleasing look.

However, that leaves the domed apex of the crystal as a point for concentrated scratches and abrasion..

Over time you end up with the center of the crystal with a hazy, muddy look...

I would like the age old UNIQUE Rolex look with the existing crystal and cyclops.....but some AR coating under the cyclops would be welcome for easier date readability!!

JJ, you just described the crystal treatment on the new GMTs. I like the cyclops as it is a defining feature of Rolex. The AR treatment on the new GMTs a big improvement.

Domed in saphire with/without cyclop! best of both worlds. I BY FAR prefer the domed crystal, but acrylic is just not realistic- I would LOVE the older look with newer material.

AR coated but only from the inside so that there's no worry of scratching the AR coating outside.

Flat as a pancake, as they are now, but even with the bezel.

Which would require bigger bezels to compensate, I guess.
