Buying preowned AP warranty

I'm looking at buying a 2012 pre owned royal oak. Please could someone confirm if the AP warranty stays with the watch or is it only valid for the original purchaser?

Also, I've heard about making sure you get your 'sticker' or 'stamp' from AP for a third year of warranty(?) could someone enlighten me on what this means and how this works.

I'm in the UK of that makes a difference.

Stays with watch and to get 3rd year contact AP Service center and for it to be valid you need to do waterproof test in year 2 if I remember correctly.

AD's don't and can't carry out tests as they are done by AP Service Centers.

Are you sure this is the case throughout Europe as well? When I say AD I do not mean AD in the US context, where ADs are mostly sales outlets.

For instance my local Rolex AD is fully certified to carry out all service (including Vintage) and tests on all Rolex models. They have a comprehensive workshop with about 5 Rolex certified watchmakers (though they are not classified as RSC). They are also AP and VC dealer and are already certified to carry out service on some AP models.

Whether that entails WR tests I do not know - but I can't see why not - should be less complicated than carrying out full service?

Can't say over there but Thomas can. Here they go to AP Service Center as they carry out all work. The one I use is in Clearwater Florida.

Yes I know - I envy you guys! Clearwater offers very reasonable pricing and shipping back/forth equally so. My American colleague recently had a RO serviced for about $1000. That's about the same it costs to service a SS Daytona in my neck of the woods.

Thomas, do you know about the WR testing - does it need to be sent to Holland, Switzerland or UK or can it be done in-house at the AD e.g. in Sweden?

I recently registered my 15400 and here's the response back:

We sincerly thank you for your confidence. Your timepiece has been recorded on Audemars Piguet website. The recorded entries are:

Purchase date: xxxx

Watch reference: 15400ST.OO.1220ST.03
Watch description: MONTRE BRACELET ROYAL OAK

In a few weeks, you will receive a sticker to be placed in your warranty booklet. To benefit from this third year warranty, you should take your watch to an Audemars Piguet approved repair centre, at the latest 24 months after purchasing it. The repair centre will carry out a water-resistance service and fill out the required information on the sticker. This service is free of charge. For additional information, please refer to the Warranty booklet you received with your watch.

Thanks, yes this is the same wording found on APs web site, but I am still wondering if it has to be taken to a RSC or if some ADs (in Europe) are approved to do this.

Guess I'll have to call my AD tomorrow.

Yes--just paid $1040 to do full service on my RB2 Ti which I couldn't have been happier about! We are certainly fortunate and wish that held the same everywhere!

You don't have to pay for the service if its under warranty correct? The service done before you 2yr is up to receive the 3rd?

Yes that would be free of charge, AD's that are AP service centers will debit AP for the work on your watch.
