GMT master dial question
I have noticed that on the mid-70's ss/gold GMTs (same model). It had 2 types of rolex crown logo on the dial. The 1st one was just like the current one (printed), the 2nd one was an actual gold crown (raised). Does anyone know why and the difference between the 2 dials?

Just like this dial, take a look at the crown. My 2 GMT are from the same year, both ss/gold, but dial and bezel insert aren't the same color.

Don't have an answer for you but it would be nice if all GMT's, or Rolex sport models for that matter, had the raised crown. Hell, even my Tudor chrono has a raised shield.

Your picture is of an 18k GMT with nipple dial. I believe all the 18k models in the 70's/80's with the nipple dial had the raised gold crown on the dial too. Here is an 18k sub from the same era. |

I dont have pictures of my GMT's that's why i used this picture to show the dial. Both GMT's are SS/gold with nipple dials from the same year 1976 (if i remember well) one has the standard printed crown, the other one has a raised gold crown. I think the one with the raise crown looks better. |

The ONLY current sport's Rolex that has a WG/YG Rolex coronet is the Daytona, btw.

That's what I am talking about. Notice the raised crown. Most TT GMT's don't have a raised crown, shame shame shame!
