Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow or Zenith El Primero 36'000 vph

Price is similar...what do you guys have to say about the pros and cons? It doesn't have to be necessarily the Broad Arrow but that was what I saw. Most important for me is resale value. I understand only watch enthusiasts would know about Zenith and more people would know Omega. What about quality and durability for the long haul....or as a heirloom.

Currently I'm torn between a new Omega Schumacher Legend (it may be comparing apples and oranges), the Broad Arrow and the Zenith. I like them all but just can't justify the price I'll be paying on the Zenith yet I wanted the Daytona before all of this.

I think you should go with an Omega Speedmaster Pro, the Moon Watch. You get an awesome watch with a TON of history. Plus it's one of the best looking faces out there.

From what I've seen if you purchase right both keep their value well. I live both and would be a tough choice.

+1

Can't go wrong with that one. The El Primero has a very good movement as well but I don't like Zenith's design myself.

Same - love the zenith movement, but the watch itself doesn't do much for me.

The Broad Arrow is a sharp looking watch, the Shumacher speedmaster can be a sharp looking watch depending on dial and sub-dial color choice, and the moon watch is obviously a classic.

Really not a bad choice in the group so buy the one you like the best.

Zenith for me. Like some of their designs, but love the movement and the history.

Would you guys try to wait on the preowned route for the Zenith? It seems that the secondary market on the Zenith is around $4500+. Where as a brand new one, the AD quoted me about $6800 (out the door) and the grey dealers here have it new for about $6300. But to find a Zenith 36'000 vph on the secondary market preowned is rare.

Zenith !

I know Omega is not bad and there are a lot of people who like Omega

But these 2 are not in the same league.

Zenith is much more interesting.

The only bad thing ... they did not have the publicity or marketing they should have had in the last 20 years. Their previous CEO Mr Nataf didn't do a great job.
Since 2 or 3 years we have Mr Dufour and he is a smart guy. It will take time but I'm sure he will put the brand where it belongs. And that is way above Omega !
They are definitely in the top 10 of the most important brands.
IWC and JLC will get some serieus competition.

Their El Primero movement is just leganday. I dare to say , in a historical point of view ...more important than any IWC or JLC movement. The Elite movment is also a good piece.
Than we have the famous calibre 5011K. Not very well known but this is because this is a rare movement. I think they only made 5000 of these emovement in 50 years ! That is an average 100 per year !!
Anyway, that 5011K movement was tested in 1967 in Neuchatel and it was the most accurate movement they ever tested.
Or what about the calibre 135 .... not in production anymore but read about it, again a top notch movement. Who knows, maybe they will make it again one day.

Another thing ... their PILOT watches
IWC and breitling are 2 brands who claim to have great pilot watches.
But do you know Zenith made a pilot watch already in 1910 ? Mr Blériot wore a Zenith when he was the first man to fly over the English Channel that was way before the IWC B-Uhr
that were made for the germans in the second worldwar.
Btw, the word 'PILOT' is patented by Zenith. Zenith is the only brand that can put the word 'Pilot' on a dial.

And there are many , many other reasons.

But like said ... marketing is very important for a brand and that is where Zenith went wrong ... IN THE PAST.
The fact that some American crap company owned Zenith ( hifi and television) in the past was a disaster. They made the most insane and ridiculous decissions.
(Thank God that chapter did end and we had Charles vermot to save this top brand)
Dufour seems to understand how it works and the pilot watches .. Zeniths 'DNA' were placed in the spotlight at Basel

Maybe the most important thing, today these watches are almost for free if you compare them to others like JLC and IWC. I dare to say they are at least 50% too cheap.
Believe me, that will change when Zenith will become more pomular, and they will !
So today it is a bargain, take advantage of it !!

You're not the only one who wears one LOL : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJPscKGDBFA

Depends on which dial is on the Zenith 36,000... You will have to guesstimate where the minute hand is for the overlap on the hour dial. Fortunately, this isn't too hard as the minute hand pops from position to position at the stroke of 60 second intervals.

I am a Omega guy but I'd say Zenith between the two.

You have one of these right?
