AP Movements

Im looking to educate myself a bit more on APs. What are the general opinions over AP movements?

Although they look beautifully decorated I was a little disappointed at the danger zone date setting aspect of a 41mm roo I recently looked at. Correct me if I'm wrong but they beat at a lower hertz than rolex and the power reserves don't seem too impressive either.

I also find It a bit odd that the rubber clad Roos have a different movement than the steel bezel roos.

I'd appreciate any info on all this or please point me to the right place/links.

AP movements are excellently finished and provide as much reliability as any other brand. If you're referring to not changing the date between 10pm and 2am, that's true of almost every automatic watch.

As for the bph, it's a design consideration. Rolexes beat at 28,800 vs the 3120's 21,600 - doesn't mean either is better or worse. The 3120 is 60hrs PR vs 48hrs.

As for different movements between ROOs, AP has been moving pieces to the newer 3126/3840 and away from the older JLC based 2326/2840 (which by the way is 28,800 bph).

Thanks for the info. The movement in the new 41 mm ro does look like a thing of beauty.

The cal. 3120 in the 15400 is one of the finest movements ever made.
