Don't worry, most of Rolex will feel shocking light if you own Breitling or Omega. Soon you will get use to it and later will start pick on why other watches are built so heavy on wrist and made you feel uncomfortable.

Its all in the date wheel. Leaving that out drops a lot of weight out of the watch.

It's plenty strong and plenty beefy. Bigger is not neccessarily better.

What do you know, you're a Pam head now anyway. :)

Besides, in my case, big is good. :)

Interesting thread. Great read guys and it's nice to have a civilized discussion and not have someone getting angry.

Just this week, I tried on the 114060 for the first time. I thought it was thick and heavy and big, not light and fragile. So, I was disappointed for the opposite reason.

Agreed. When I first read the post, I thought for sure this guy is going to be crucified for blasphemy.

This is one of the things I really like about TRF.

Well screw him! JUST KIDDING!!!

Seriously, I like a certain amount of weight, too light feels odd to me, it's why I don't like Ti watches. But once that minimum amount of weight is there, extra weight or height, for me, is unappealing. I don't mind 43-44mm watches, but I don't like thick and/or heavy ones, like the Deepsea, PO or most Breitlings.

And I used to be the guy who only liked big, thick heavy divers, I guess my tastes have changed over time.

But hey, just my opinion, there's no right or wrong.

Wow. Very surprised.
That watch is solid and would deal with most that life throws at it.
I think it's just the right weight for a solid piece.
The DSSD way to heavy IMHO.

Still each to thier own. We're all different.

Although a Rolex is light as compared to others, however I find that a Rolex finishing on everything is top notch

Others respectable brands are top notch too

Where did people say this, exactly?

What does this even mean?

To the OP: at the end of the day, your perceptions are all that matter, but why would you want to strap on a brick? Haven't you been around long enough to know that heavier does not necessarily mean stronger or better?

I had the intention of getting a Sub last year to go with my Seamaster, Navitimer and Carrera, but it felt too small and light so I got a DSSD, which is great. I looked at a Daytona this year, but again too found it too light and small and I will now wait and get a Y-M II which a little heavier than the DSSD, but the same size.
Horses for courses and all about personal choice. Omega do have the size marketing right though offering a choice of diameters across the range, but like humans watches have been getting bigger with time!

For you guys who obsessed with the weight of a watch, go to:

www.bluek.co.jp/

use google translate to English, then click on your desired watches to check out the weight, you can compare with tons of other brands

you will be surprised by Rolex's weight...it is indeed...light

light but I like

I have a Breitling Steelfish. It makes my Sub feel light. That's probably why my Sub sees substantially more wrist time.

Well think of it this way there are millions upon millions of Rolex watches in this world today. And basically all the same except for a few grams in weight difference and W/R and price. And countless thousands of those had a much harder life that today's average Rolex wearers pampered watches and many still alive and ticking 50 plus years old.Afraid today heavy is not always better with any product you buy.Its today's marketing, I call it brain washing, that dictates bigger heavier is better. But to those a bit wiser they know this is not always the fact the bigger heavier the harder they fall.

I'm not really getting the buying-watches-by-the-pound thing, but here's a question for those who do: If the 114060 came, not in SS, but in a heavier metal, would that help? Assuming you liked, say, white gold, which I believe is heavier than SS, would the watch be more attractive then?

Just wondering.

While they might feel lighter than other brands and models, have no fear as to the toughness of a Rolex. How often do you hear of anyone breaking their Rolex on this forum? After wearing large heavy Invicta, Renato and Breitling watches, I purchased a TT 16613 and that was very comfortable. Yes the bracelet rattles a little but the model has proven itself to be a worthy contender for longevity. I then purchased a 116710 GMTIIC. That feels a little heavier and the bracelet rattle is gone due to solid end links. Both are tough watches. Perhaps Panerai is a brand you should look at?

I wont have a go, but only ask you one question; " do you think there would be so many 50 odd year old Subs. for sale if they really were that flimsy " ?

i had a 300gram dive watch and it was just too much, i was aware of the watch all day long. i have the dssd now and it's perfect for me, but i would welcome something lighter like the sub too.

When I put on a Rolex for the first time, my immediate thought was "This is fairly lightweight"

I wasn't disappointed, it was simply an observation.
