Icon8 Accused of wearing a fake.

I'm a new member of the Rolex Club and just picked up my DSSD this week. Last night I was at a club with some friends (and friends of friends that I did not know) when one of the more obnoxious drunks of the bunch (I was the designated driver) asked what kind of watch I was wearing. I said "DeepSea" because 1) I don't want to seam like a pretentious a**hole and 2) I don't want the pretentious a**holes, and shallow girls here in Scottsdale liking me because they think I have a Rolex.

He grabs my wrist and says to the group "He's wearing a fake Rolex!!!" (while laughing).

I politely disagree but after a few minutes of trying to explain to him what I have on I give up. Apparently he's an experts and He says that he buys all his watches from "his guy" at the local Tourneau (sp?) store and he has never seen that Rolex there before.

Tourneau isn't an AD and every time I've been in the local and very tiny store all I see are beatup Sub's in the preowned section.

Have you ever had a person say yours is a fake when they obviously have no frickin clue what they are talking about? It seems that if it's not a Sub or GMT people who do not know Rolex think it's a fake.

Don't worry about it. A slight smile along with a calm, confident attitude is all you need. You may also know by now that a number of us are ok with certain people (like the 'gentleman' you mentioned) assuming we are wearing a replica.

I wear a watch for myself and no one else. So it's really irrelevant to me what someone may think.

I met a guy not long ago wearing a white dial daytona. He looked at mine and said "I know its a fake because they are impossible to get. If there was a real one to be had around here I would be wearing it"
I said nothing about the fake he was wearing that he had basically just admitted to having.

I'm sometimes told that my 116619LB is fake because "Rolex doesn't make a blue ceramic dial/bezel sub."

I've never had some say I'm wearing a fake . If anyone ever does ,I wouldn't argue or even try to prove its real to them. All that really matters is I know what I have , I just smile and just assume he's not as knowledgeable about watches .

I don't think think people liking you for your Rolex is something you need to worry about.

When out and about with my Rolex and surrounded by drunken idiots and someone pipes up about it - I'll go for a change of subject rapidly - if that doesn't work I'll assess the likelihood of trouble and either head for the exit by way of the wc or subtly transfer it to my pocket for extra safe keeping. You don't need to entertain crap about whether it's real or not. You know and it knows.

Haha. Yeah, Mike, a few of us were going to mention that to you. And what's with all the fancy Pateck watches? Something is amiss.

I've been through this countless of times..first time when I was 17. It was one of my father's "friend" he claimed my Seamaster was a fake... I was young as immature so I got kinda pissed. But now I always tell the person either: "if you think its fake then its probably a fake" or "When I purchased the watch the salesman never said it was a real Rolex.." :)

Deepsea is a massive clock and trust me you will get so many of alike comments. :)

Over consumption makes people say and do stupid things. Add some liquored up ladies and anything can happen. Let it go. Everyone in the car probable doesn’t remember the conversation. If you see the guy again ask him to kindly enjoy a cup of coffee on you!

Sounds like he really got under skin. You should not let drunken heathens do that. However I always like to turn every situation into a positive one. Next idiot who says that tell them you will put up a G and he only has to put up a 100 and then use your phone to show him pics off of rolex's website. If he's going to mouth off put your money next to it.

I've had that happen on my Sub LV. I just laugh at them and move on.

Not worth the time to explain to losers like that guy.

Enjoy that beauty and enjoy.

Ill tell you something, wearing a 27k Sub made from solid WG that obviously can seem not genuine to the uninformed, is nearly the definition of stealthy, classy and cool. But...

As crazy as this sounds some of the new "colored" ones don't seem real to me either! LOL

I think my LV has been given a stare or two from folks that get confused by the green bezel. Noone has ever said anything because I've never given them time to...I don't care what they think.

Who the hell cares?

You're the one with the receipt, and the official papers with the serial #, which say you own the genuine article. If it bothers you that much what other people think, don't wear it in public.

I would have stopped the car and informed him this was a "fake" ride home and thrown him out on the street. People like that are useless. Even if your watch was fake (I obviously know it isn't) trying to make someone feel small is pathetic. A lot times when you confront a bully about why they are doing the things they are doing, then tend to shrink up and have a hard time defending it. They actually end up looking stupid to the group.

I fully agree! Nobody ever said that to me before but I wouldn't care, especially if it comes from somebody who is drunk...

I am not sure if I would care if it was someone I did know.

In this case since you do not know the person, why worry about it? You know what you are wearing is real, that is all that matters.

Or at least that is all that matters to me.

I just got my 16610 last week and love it! I bought it at an AD (all papers and everything, all genuine etc) and can say that sometimes I almost feel underwhelmed when comparing it to a fake because the bracelet on the old subs are quite light. But just looking at the fit and finish on that watch just makes me smile.
I could care less if someone thinks its fake - they will never know for sure (unless they are a friend) and will be second guessing themselves.
Mind you, rolex's ARE the most counterfeited watch out there...so jealous people will just tell themselves its fake so they dont feel inadequate.

This is something you and everyone else here have to shake off as it goes with the brand. Some of these angry "I'd have kicked them out of the car" responses are funny but not the best way to conduct yourself. The DSSD is a big watch, you'll probably have a similar encounter before long.

The truth is I prefer people to think my Sub C is fake, it's just better all around. Unless it's a fellow WIS, or of course while browsing at a watch store where a decent watch is sort of the price of admission.

Have you ever noticed at watch stores, the SA will often try, either by asking, or even more intrusively by picking up YOUR watch, to verify your watch is real, or a late model, to gauge whether you're a bona fide customer?
