How much do YOU spend on your watch hobby/collection/obsession???

Bit of a hypothetical, but seems that us watch fans spend a very sizable amount on watches and our collections. I myself have also slowly crept up-market and it certainly is not a cheap hobby. But then I see some other collections and just makes me drool because they are nicer than my local AD's :)

So I was just thinking of how you decide weather you can buy that new shiny watch that just hit the shelves or when does it become too expensive? Or how do you gauge what your watch buying budget is? Given than these are pretty much perfectly elastic luxury items, just curious how you decide how much is ok spend? Or for that matter, how often?

I see your curiosity...but this is exposing a lot to the public and about high $$$ items. I dont know how much people will say...

For me, I make sure all my expenses are paid for then what I have left over I invest. I take some profits from investing to pay for a new watch.

No, no. Don't need any specifics, but just curious what people think is OK to spend on a new watch. Obviously we all have the disposable income for such items, but some models hit amounts that cost more than a new Benz and some collections hit 7-figures.

There are obviously watches that I too would love to own and could afford, but then it wouldn't be smart or financially prudent so some restraint is in order.

As much as your wallet will afford, granted that all other aspects of your life are properly taken care of (bills, expenses, food, supplies, clothing, etc.)

After purchasing 4 nice watches( SS Daytona, AP BB ROO, AP RC ROO, PAM 339) I've come to a point that I no longer am satisfied with adding other watches and if I am in the market it's going to be something like a "heavy hitting" piece such as a PP 5130p (not any time soon).

After all the bills and other sundry needs are taken care of, after retirement and investment plans are met, post vacation funds, only then is any money used on toys. I also maintain a watch fund that I invest between purchases. Basically, everyone's situation is different so this is a relative question.

I spend every penny I earn on watches, that's why I live in a refrigerator box...

I'm still trying to master the art of restraint, though...

As Mike said, purely discretionary, after more important family planning etc is taken care of.

Although i have been know from time to time to throw caution to the wind for a new purchase which just makes me push harder to put more away!!!

Just bought a house. Tied up a lot. I fund my retirement and make sure that the people that are close to me are taken care of first.

Then if I can I splurge on a Rolex.

never spend money i've had to go into the office to do actual work for

collection has been paid for with capital gains from investments and day trading (better to spend on watches than the taxman getting his filthy hands on it )
