Remembrance day....
I always remember this my self... Apologies if this has ben done already.
They shall grow not old As those that are left grow old Age shall not weary them Nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun And in the morning We will remember them |

Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.

I watch Saving Private Ryan every Veterans Day and VE day. My father was of that greatest generation. Quietly used the veterans college loan program to obtain an Ivy League education and make a grand life for his family. There would be no Rolexes on my wrist if we hadn't won the big war. I haven't seen the graves at Normandy but plan on going there soon, and know I will be overwhelmed with appreciation.

Thank you for this thread. Freedom is not free! May we always be worthy of their sacrifice.

Excellent, I am just returning from Tobruk, Libya tonight. The Fig Tree hospital, the Commonwealth Cemetery, The German Cemetery, the Tobruk Cemetery. As my Arab guide asked what was the reason for all of this ? I wish I could have had a more profound answer for him but I could only think of one word---Freedom.

When you think about it, "Freedom" is an awfully big word, though...

THE INQUISITIVE MIND OF A CHILD.
Why are they selling poppies mummy? Selling poppies in town today The poppies, child are flowers of love For the men who marched away But why have they chosen a poppy mummy? Why not a beautiful rose? Because, my child, men fought and died In fields where poppies grow But why are poppies so red mummy? Why are poppies so red? Red is the colour of blood, my child The blood our soldiers shed The heart of the poppy is black, mummy Why does it have to be black? Black my child, is the symbol of grief For the men who never came back But, why mummy are you crying so? Your tears are giving you pain. My tears are my fears for you my child For the world is forgetting again.

In Flanders Fields
In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. My thanks to you, that I live in the world I do.

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us Freedom of Press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us Freedom of Speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.
