1972 Omega Seamaster Chrono, Cal. 1040 "Jedi"

Omega 176.005 cal. 1040 Seamaster Automatic Chronograph, 3.4m movement number places the watch around 1972. I know that Chuck would have objected to my calling this watch the "Jedi," but that's what everyone calls it now, and as Wittgenstein said, "the meaning is the use."

Dial, hands and mineral crystal are clean. The case shows dings and scratches consistent with a watch that's forty, including one especially handsome dent on the right side of the lower panel - but - take a look at the sunburst scoring and clean case lines. This watch might actuall be unpolished (a term which drives vintage collectors, including me, up the wall).

The movement was serviced by George Aloi at Tempus Fugit here in NYC in April of this year (no docs, sorry). "Service Receipt" is informal to say the least, but legit (see pic). Non-hacking cal. 1040 movement is running well, all chronograph functions working properly and resetting to zero. Sorry about the lack of movement picks, I don't have the tools or know-how to open the caseback. I am allowing for an inspection period for your watchmaker to take a look inside (see terms below).

I've listed a couple of vintage Omega Chronographs in the last week, and many people asked about water resistance - I'll give the same response in advance here: I didn't get it pressure tested, because a chronograph without screw-down pushers is not something I would ever dip in the drink, especially if it's 40 years old. It has enough water resistance for a rainy day or a sweaty summer.

The bracelet is one of the selling points here - it's the rarer JB Champion bar-type affair. The construction is quite nifty - all links detach via little tiny spring bars. I have it sized for my 7" inch wrist, and have one extra link.

No box or sales docs, bu, it did come to me with a cal. 1040 instruction pamphlet, which I'll include with the watch. Overall TZ rating an honest 84%.

I'm like to get $1450. I'll listen to offers, but crazy lowballs will be ignored. Price includes Paypal fees (verified addresses only) and overnight shipping. USA deals only, I don't want to deal with the hassles of international shipping. Face-to-face in NYC is an option, and will certainly earn you a discount.

Three-day inspection period, during which I will accept a return only if I've misrepresented the watch in any way. I won't take it back because of garden-variety buyer's remorse, though.

E-mail me with any questions you might have, I'll do my best to answer them indetail. I have references, don't hesitate to ask! Thanks for looking!
