This really takes me back. It's amusing to see John mess up the lyrics to "I Feel Fine" and hilarious when he clowns around on the keyboards during "I'm Down". It was nice of them to give Ringo the spotlight for "Act Naturally". "Ticket To Ride" is also amazing. Paul plays "Yesterday" and it's so cool when John says,
"thank you Paul, that was just like him". After all these years they are still one of the most amazingly musical and talented groups ever. (If I could figure out how to embed, I would) Enjoy!

If I had to pick one band to listen to only, it would have to be them, such creativity, variety, and so many quality songs.

My dad saw John Lennon at a George Harrison concert sitting next to him. No one recognized John due to his outfit so he could watch George perform in peace. My dad told

I actually purchased the Beatles Ed Sullivan Show DVDs a couple of years ago.


The Beatles are my favorite group.

Never saw them in concert as I was too young, but I finally saw Paul last year in Vegas.

Awesome concert.


Who else could play three hours of hit after hit?


His catalogue of music and hits is just tremendous.

That was a refreshing blast from the past, when the only thing controversial about them was their hair and the the reactions of a generation of teenage girls.

I must admit that my brother and I were huge Beatle fans and we held ourselves to be quite fortunate that our strict and stern parents thought they were okay for us to listen to, although they weren't much impressed.

They admitted in their twilight years that they had come to like a lot of Beatles' tunes as performed by others.

I wasn't surprised by this, as Lennon and McCartney wrote some timeless songs that were widely covered, but I was thunderstruck that they'd admit it.

I will date myself here. (Dan, I have the Sullivan DVD's also, and remember that 2/9/64 show--people forget how down the US was after the Kennedy assassination in November--the Beatles were just what the doctor ordered for shocked generation).

One of my very favorite memories was by the tube-glow of the bakelite radio in my brother's bedroom, which adjoined mine at the door. No light but the warm orange glow of the tubes out the back particle board of the radio casting their faint flame onto my ceiling. Clear channel radio days in US, with WLS-Chicago playing. I am 5-6 and the Beatles have 8 of the top 10..they are playing them constantly.

I can see why young kids react so positively to that music. It's still an exciting and approachable sound.

They have so many albums where I enjoy playing the entire album of songs. Most groups come no where near this. Maybe some of the other groups will actually have just one or two albums where you enjoy listening to the entire album.

True, many don't know this, but Lenon/Mcartney wrote "Can't Touch This!" and " I Like Big Butts" :)

Seriously though, anybody have the recording of Clapton doing a live version of While my Guitar Gently Weeps, I think I hear Paul doing backup vocals, and there's a pretty strong rumor that Clapton did the guitar solo in the original version since, while Harrison was good, he wasn't Clapton good. :)

I have another neat live recording of the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix doing Day Tripper, very cool.

Sad to say, but I find today's music and the artists who "perform" it not particularly inspiring or spiritual. I was born in the late 60's but I love most everything from the 50's to the late 70's. I'll admit that for nostalgic reasons, I like some 80's too. :)

But wow, the 60's and 70's, to me, were the golden era, and the Bestles will always be my favorite band. The talent they collectively had was astounding. When you listen to some of their later more complex songs, you wonder, how the hell did they ever think of this? And it works so perfectly, so many unique, but beautiful songs, that had they not thought of them, the world would really be a different place. Amazing.

Clapton did perform the guitar lead on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I thought this was pretty well known.

Who could forget the furor when Lennon quipped that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus?

They had Beatles album burnings throughout the bible belt on account of that remark by John Lennon.

I remember those and they undoubtedly boosted their record sales.

When one of the bonfires was lit in Baton Rouge, if I recall correctly, people charged the burning stack of albums and were carting them off by the arm loads before the fire spread.

Man, that was a crazy time to grow up and the insanity was just beginning.

Yes, and here in Chicago, on WXRT-93.1FM radio, on Sunday mornings from 8:00AM-10:00AM(Central Standard Time)they do a Beatles show as well and have for years.....

Only because John was assassinated in December on the 8th of 1980. I agree that Paul is amazing and one of the most gifted and talented man ever but John is who made the Beatles and put them on the map. He had the vision and charisma which turned on a generation. And quietly in the back round who didn't make waves(in the beginning years)was George, also truly gifted and talented. And rounding out the picture was Ringo who kept the beat and kept the boys on track and without him they were nothing but talented young men. The Beatles were truly the first mega group(four gifted men who found each other and formed a tight relationship), started the music video industry and set the tone for other groups to follow and sang to a young ,hungry generation who were ready to burst at the seams.....I know because I lived through the 60's and saw how everything unfolded. They will always be my favorite group and now in an age where people download a song here and there.....go back and listen to each Beatle album.....there are no 'Filler Songs'. They made certain that each song could stand on it's own and were truly gifted at writing songs which became hits for whoever they gave them to to use and sing(like the Rolling Stones for one)..........
I know they used guests on some of their songs, like Eric Clapton, but not because George couldn't play, and as for Clapton he's good but not great...there are many who are way better.....listen to Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix to name a few!!!

Absolutely agree.

It wasn't just one, it was a collection of very talented people who made the Beatles so Great.

If you take a good look at the songs Paul predominately wrote they are quite a bit different than what John was writing. George who was younger blossomed later than the other two. But when he did the songs he wrote were truly outstanding. By the way he was the first to have a solo album to go number one.

Ringo was also a very important member of the band.

Dan, I agree, with Ringo keeping the beat and setting the tone they became a top notch super group. Because before Ringo they had Peter Best and even though he helped draw in the girls and they had his Mom's support(as well)they were just so-so or good. But once they got Ringo and paid their dues in Germany, when they came back to Liverpool with their polished act...they took Great Britain first by storm and then across the pond to America they went. And then conquered the world and the rest is history.....

Even though other groups came out with 'Concept Albums' first like the Beach Boys with Pet Sounds and Procol Harum came out with 'A whiter Shade of Pale' once the Beatles released 'Sgt. Peppers' they eclipsed all that had been and set the bar so high that no one ever has come close since in producing that level of excellence. The Who have come close with their Rock Operas 'Tommy' and 'Quadrophenia' and both are excellent and ground breaking in their own right. But the Beatles continued to set the tone for others to follow and once the pressures became to great...they broke up and went their separate ways.....

Yes when they first came out all the girls screamed, but it was their progression as artists and music talent that was so interesting to see. They worked really hard on their craft and became so much better through the years.

To think in part we can thank the screaming girls, hectic celebrity road life, and poor sound systems of the day.

Given positive reaction, here is an album that was available on vinyl in the the '70's that was mixed by George Martin, to capture the Beatles concert experience. To my knowledge, was never released in other formats. This is very indicative of what a Beatle concert was like in '64/'65 in US. Again, worth a listen if you haven't heard this before. 30 minute sets!

Been along time since I heard this one. I bought this album when it came out. Like you said I'm pretty sure this was only released in this format, of course the sound quality just isn't that good.


Who knows what they will re-release now, they are releasing the Magical Mystery Tour DVD and Blue Ray disc on October 8th. I don't know how many of you have seen this movie but it really wasn't that popular at all during the initial release. Part of the problem was that it was shown in Black in White and it was shot and meant to be shown in color.

It's pretty difficult to find in the VHS version and I actually fell asleep watching it when I found a copy a number of years back at the Bed and Breakfast that used to be Goerge's sisters house.
