Bamford & Sons - Black Rolex's

I don't see Rolex offering a black watch. Do the watches from Bamford & Sons hold their value? I really like the blacked out look.

Love em blacked out. But as a flipper, can't do it. I'll lose too much on resale. But I really do love em.

Bamford & Sons is a UK based clothiers who started customizing Rolex watches a decade ago with PVD coatings..

They then charge 2 to 3 times the MSRP (the Daytona is over 30k for example).

I think it unlikely that a PVD paintjob at this price-point will retain it's value over time..

There is a group in NY that does really good PVD coating,
I like their AP PVD coatings, looks really nice

I would doubt it and they will have a very limited market if you ever wanted to sell, plus Rolex themselves would not ever service the watch.

It's simply an individual preference. DLC/PVD coating gives a Rolex watch an entirely different angle and style.

If you want a watch with PVD coating, why not buy a watch from a brand that offers them? I think it is flat out silly to pvd or dlc a Rolex.

The resale of these pvd rolexs is almost non existent. As said before the market is very limited as to who would want these watches making resale very hard. I personally wouldn't buy one ( I am bit of a Rolex purist), but if you want one buy one just for fun to keep, but don't buy one with the hopes of reselling it.

I know a guy who bought a murdered out DSSD. It is not scratch proof and you can see scratches that look SS. IMHO it looks like garbage after a few years.

Poor investment and resale value, and PVD watches are usually overpriced, they sell basically because they are "unique"

I don't see the point & for silly money at that. Tried to talk a friend out of getting one but he was adamant and ordered a blacked out GMT2C without the bracelet but with a handful of Natos thrown in. Different strokes I suppose.

I like the look but due to the price and the likely inability to resell at a reasonable price down the road, I would go for something like a Steinhart in PVD. A lot less invested for the same look and who cares about what it would resell for.

Well...I think PVDd Rolex watches look like Doo Doo.

These are truly for the guy with too much money. When I think of all the watches I would rather buy than a butchered classic Rolex.

That black Sub looks bloody sensational! Very stealth-like...not sure I would buy one unless I can determine whether the craftsmanship and integrity of the original watch has been compromised or not.

I previously understood that one could only buy DLC watches "brand new" i.e. Bamford get them new, coat them and sell them. There is however a service in LA that will service your watch and they will DLC it as well, at a cost of course. They quoted 3-5 weeks turnaround.

I don't think they hold their value at all. Rolexes that are heavily modified like this typically lose their value in the general market. However, there are a small group of people that absolutely love these mods and will pay top dollar for them. So, in the end, it really depends who you sell it to.
