The only nuisance with ebay is from a seller standpoint - the fees rape you and ebay always takes the buyers' side by default now-a-days - heck I can't even leave negative feedback for a buyer! It's positive or nothing.
From a buyer's standpoint, so long as you pay through paypal (and with a credit card), you have plenty of protection.

As a seller, I have had several rulings in my favor by ebay and paypal. As long as you have the supporting evidence, you're safe. But yes, the 6% fees between ebay and paypal feel a bit rape-y.
