Hi, Lovely watch! I am not an expert at all but I wouldnt touch the dial... i would just have the movement serviced , then youre sure it will last ...

Also , And i don't know how it works in SIngapore, but in the UK or US you wouldnt want to take it to rolex for servicing, as they do not work on vintage pieces(over 30 yr old) and when they do they tend to replace parts with their most modern suitable part, not the original period parts...so I would reccomend looking for a vintage specialist watchmaker/repairer...good luck!

maybe if you have time look for a nice period strap/buckle if the current strap has gone old/stiff...or isnt a rolex one (cant tell from pics)

That certainly looks like a Classic to me...!! As NDB80 mentioned above ..I would probably Not do anything with the dial.. looks to be in pretty good shape for 'vintage' ...
A good servicing should do you just fine. - ie Bob Ridley, who has been mentioned on here Alot...!!
And a new strap will certainly bring it back to its Glory...! - (Just my $.02..)..

Very nice heirloom. I'd deffinately get a vintage watchmaker to take a look and give you some options.

I'm new to vintage Rolex and hope others will chime in.

By coincidence I was just looking at an Oyster Royal from the 40s and yours seems more stylish--"modern", probably late 50s. Your dial is in excellent condition compared to the one I saw. In fact, your entire watch is in excellent condition compared to the one I saw.

Since it's from you father I wouldn't do much too it except give it a tune up and a new band. Take good care of it.

a really classy looking piece you have there. as the others have already said, sending it to bob ridley would be a great idea. he is one of the best when it comes to vintage rolex.

Beautiful vintage piece you have here. Check out the link below for some info on the Rolex Oyster vintage. I would definitely take it to have a service, but keep the dial as is...looks amazing!

This is the simple reason why i love thois forum. You guys are amazing with all the information provided. Guess i will just take it for a little servicing and leave the dial as it is.

I may just polish it a little on the sides to make it look slightly better and of course a brand new strap.

Thanks for all the help guys !

The stainless back almost certainly means that this is a plated or capped gold. You'll have to be very careful polishing the case. The dial is very good looking, still.

Respectfully disagree regarding 6424 status: measure the lug distance. The Royals are 19 mm band, the 6424 is a 20 mm band.
