First Rolex - 5513
I recently bought this from a local shop that had originally sold it in the late 70's. They bought it back along with other jewelery from the estate. I would appreciate some assistance from the local experts on more specific's of what I have.
The case is marked 5513 with a serial # of 5.55mil. This should put it around 1978. The local authorized shop serviced the insides plus replaced the crystal, seals and maybe the crown and bezel. Any opionions would be appreciated. |

lovely dial and the case looks good - the hands are lighter, so may be newer, and the bezel insert, I'd say (I'm no expert!)

Looks like a nice example of a Mk I Maxi dialed 5513. The dial would be correct for that serial range of case. Congrats.

It's nice, but Karl says also that one can see from afar, hands / dial / insert is a difference in color.

Excellent - thanks for the input. I agree on the bezel replacement as it as no marks or scratches. The hands were not replaced on the very recent service as I talked with the repair shop plus there is no lume present in the dark. Maybe they were done at an earlier service.
Regardless, considering the relatively low price paid I am very pleased with my first Rolex. Now the hunt goes for the next. Thanks again, great site for the new and uninformed. |

Congrats !
To me, the dial has been relumed in some time, but still as to preserve it have a pressure test. See how the picts are taken by the members, as to show the lugs, crown, etc. Enjoy !

do the hands glow? if so, it may be luminova. Not hard to find tritium hands though.

Awesome, I like the overall effect and wouldn't be too nitpicky.

Based on what I had learned on this site I thouhgt it was a good value for the $2,000 I paid. Plus I really liked the looks and it being vintage was a hugh bonus.

If you only paid $2,000 then you got a steal. That was prolly only a little more than half of the value. Evidently that little shop didn't research current market value very well.
