There were no 1680 TT's. True there were some early TT divers, but they carried a different reference number than 1680.
Also noteworthy the 1680 was only released with a matt dial. Replacement dials are also matt sans WG surrounds. |

conversion or not, the middle case is in great shape. doesn't look like it would take too too much to get it back to original

This is a strange one, I did quite a lot of reading regarding 1680 and just about went thru all available sources on the net, but apart from James M. Dowling / Jeffrey P Hess,s Book which mentioned that the 1680 was the first to mention it.
Quote: This new model, the 1680, looked otherwise identical to the previous model 5512. It was the first Submariner to be available in 18kt gold and in steel with gold bezel. So depends how You read it, it does't mean TT , or does it?? Was there a SS with gold bezel only?? I never read anything again anywhere about it, nor have I seen pictures in any High class Vintage Dealer site?? Guess by the end of the day it may still remain one of many Rolex mystery. |

So am I . . .
But I really like this one . . . Not a red Sub . . . not a regular Sub . . . not a GMT . . . but a nice combination all all and . . . . . P L E X I. To much I am afraid and she is (according to the pics I have) in a really great shape . . . . And I was the one who didn't liked TT . . . . ;-) HAGWe |

To have the high dome with nipple dial on a TT is just a superb idea. |

Mystery solved . . . case closed ;-)
No 1680 TT according to Mr Dowling Here is a copy of the mail that I received From: James Dowling <[email protected]> Subject: Re: Rolex 1680 TT Date: September 12, 2012 6:21:06 PM GMT+02:00 To: Me <[email protected]> Hi ; The information in the book is out of date and incorrect; there were no factory two tone 1680s although several were made by retailers on customer request. The correct information us now contained in the 4th edition of the book which will be available towards the end of this year. |
