Planning to visit Asia (Singapore)

Hello,

I've mostly travelled to Middle East & Europe, so this year me and 2 other friends decided we have to see more of the world. I was having lunch with them and mentioned Singapore, I thought that it might be a nice short Vacation of 10 days.

Does anyone suggest seeing Singapore first as apposed to Malaysia or Indonesia ?

Any suggestion's, recommendations and tips would be much appreciated. Tried to go on google found lots of information, would like to here from people who have been there before or from the locals. How is the safety, I've heard it is one of the safest countries; any places to see ?

Would really like to have 1) Relaxation 2) Touristic places (History, Culture).. 3) Shopping 4) Fun 5) Food Experience.

Much appreciated,

10 days may be a bit long- I recommend 3-4 days as it's only a small island
You should try Absinthe http://www.absinthe.sg/index2.html , and also go to Universal Studios.
You should also go to the local hawker food courts and have an authentic Singaporean breakfast and Hainan chicken
It's a very safe city, with very nice and helpful people and non-dodgy taxi drivers
I'm sure Singapore residents will chime in with their suggestions

Singapore is a clean, safe and a city for shipping and amazing food IMO.

I'd plan to spend 3-4 days there and shift into Malaysia for a part. It's a border cross and then you could travel by any means which suits depending on where you want to go.

Singapore is very safe. Amazing watch shopping of course and the food is some of the best I've had.....!

I have been to Singapore maybe 10 times and love the place. Great city. Safe, friendly and everyone speaks english. 10 days is alot. Maybe 3-4 days.

There is Sentosa island, Singapore Zoo, East Coast (for seafood), the new Casino, etc. Orchard Road is full of stores on the strip and shopping centres, with Takashimaya being the most prestigious.

Singaporeans favourite pass time is shopping. They have the Great Singapore Sale (from May to July I think) and have some great bargains.

If you head over to Malaysia, the Penang side has some beautiful resorts.

PS. If you are single or with some mates, for a few laughs/drinks, go to Orchard Towers. There are a few 'karaoke bars' in there but be warned...somethings are actually different to what they seem

food wise i think malaysia is a much better place if your looking for street food..more authentic...should you wanna buy any luxury items..then s/pore it is as the tax in msia is much more higher even with the convertion...city life style= s/pore...relaxation the east coast of malaysia...in KL there's plenty of shopping mall in Bkt Bintang...but not as much choices as compare to s/pore...

Worked there a couple of times and nice as it is it got a bit boring that being said Big M loved it and would go back tomorrow. It's also not as safe as its made out to be once you get off the beaten tourist track. A guy in our apartment block was pretty much left for dead out the back of a bar one night and I spoke to a few other people that had ran into a bit of trouble while out and about. Big M was "arrested" one day after her travel documents were alleged to have some discrepancy.

Unfortunately they let her out after a couple of hours.

A few days as a tourist will get you round most things, then take a trip to KL or Hong Kong, Bangkok is doable as well.

Enjoy the sunshine unless you go during the rainy season when it just tips it down day after day

For food wise, Singapore def is the best amount the 3. For a short trip, this is what i recommend - Fly to KL, Malaysia. Then, take the train to Singapore for 2 days (max), and stay in KL for another 2/3 days. Then, take a short fligh to Langkawi for some sun. Save another 10 days for Bali.

For an excellent pre-owned collection of Rolexes, try Peng Kwee (inside of the Arcade Mall on Orchard Road):

Peng Kwee Watches,
11 Collyer Quay. #01-03 The Arcade S049317 T6534 8401

I last visited Singapore in 2008 and this place was awesome, huge collection!
