Do you tend to collect the same model Rolexes?
When i first started considering buying a rolex, I thought i'd get one sub, one gmt, one daytona, one DJ, etc, but now that i've bought 3 daytona's, i find myself wanting more Daytona's without even considering any of the other lines. Is that normal? I see a lot of people here buying versions of the same watch too and I think I've been bitten by the same bug.

Lost on me why you would want 3 of the same watch, but if this is what rocks you go on.
I would love to have a collection but unfortunately my welfars cheque doesn't go that far. f |

Well, not exactly the same watch. Different versions...like the WG meteorite, or WG black dial with red accents. Just as if i had the GMTII, i'd want a a pepsi, coke and black.

I tend to go for different dial colours/ bezels etc, even sizes.
That said I do have 5 x Rolex GMT's and 3 x Tudor Subs but none of those are exactly the same. (unless it's my wife who's looking at them that is )

Mike, you're a piece of work!
How about leaving a couple for the rest of the planet to buy?

Mike, you're the first person I actually thought of. I thought i'd title the thread, "Mike's collecting bug."

I have the GMT IIc in SS and TT. I have a YG DD and a SS Daytona. My next two watches will be a Plat DD (ordered last week from AD) and a WG/Meteorite/Brown Strap Daytona. I don't mind the repetition. My only loaner will be my LV. I buy the watch because I like it. It doesn't matter if I have a variation and then get a different one.

A timely thread Steve.
I got my hands on a Pepsi 16710 earlier this year and have just pulled the trigger on a Coke 16710, and because my father happens to be in HK this week, I spoke to him this morning and then without thinking asked to him to go for a price hunt on a 16710 Black. No commitment yet, but it's likely I'll try to round off the collection of 16710s in the near future. I'll probably do the same with the Sub Dates, my N-series 16610 should have a Z or M series to accompany it, just to track the changes. Maybe mike's been too much of an influence!!! |

Yes, I tend to collect the same Rolex watches. Subs and SDs it has become so bad I can't wait to see in March of 08 if there will be any changes to these lines. I admire Mike as he has collected so many different Subs. I hope to do the same with the SD line if and when Rolex changes it. I see a "Rolexrolexrolex chapter ring" SD as my next addition if there is such a watch. Many feel Rolex will change the SD last of all the lines.

8 subs - 3 x TT, 4 x SS date and 1 x LV....I'd say, yes, I think I tend to get repetitive.
Not to mention.... 2 x SD 3 x Exp-II (2 white and 1 black) 3 x GMTs 3 x DJs ....I think I'm nuts!!!

Actually, my first thought when I saw Mike's collection was, "holy crap, why would you need all those - aren't they all the same?" But now I know better...and I find myself wanting to do exactly that.

My collection is fairly eclectic. 1 all black GMT-II, 1 YG diamond face DD, and 2 TT DJ,s both with Roman dials but each unique. One has a champagne face with painted markers and a black strap, the other a white face with applied markers, and a Jubilee bracelet.

Come to think of it, I believe I'd like to (one day) collect a variety of Subs, with a Red, of course, being the pinacle. This thread has caused me to consider it, and that sounds like a good course!
