I do the same. I'll sit and stare at my watch and have no clue as to what time it is...

I know exactly what your talking about - I looked at my watch and was immediately asked by a friend what time it was, I had to look again and got laughed at. Come to find out, this person does that on purpose just for that reason.......I hate to admit it, but I started doing the same thing, it's quite entertaining. Next time you see a co-worker check their watch, ask them what time it is about 10 seconds later.
To answer the original post, I think I still do it frequently - I just love looking at my watch. |

Looking at my watch for reasons other than to determine the current time is a complete waste of time...

A mechanical watch is a close approximation of time. So a quick glance is all I need to know where I am, relatively speaking, in terms of the next thing I need to get done before the next meeting, call, appointment, etc.

I notice I look at it more often when I have the blued dial on as opposed to the black dial. I also see no reason to dig my phone out of my back pocket when I can just turn my wrist.

When you think about it, a watch is one of only a very few pieces of male jewelery.
The others being possibly rings, bracelets and gold neck chains. Of all those it is easily the most common. With the exception of the black plastic variety, it is clearly both jewelery and fashion accessory as indicated by the current trend towards large eyecatching designs. I couldn't imagine anyone wearing a beautiful watch like a Rolex (or PP, VC, IWC etc) and not paying it some 'eye tribute' regularly.

No, it's not just you. Although I still want to figure out a BS response, well, just because.

I check my watch--to tell the time--dozens of times a day. The weird bit is I do it so often and have such an inate sense of time--I can tell people what time it is without checking my watch. It is a compulsion for me to know what time it is. Probably a result of billing by the 1/10th of an hour and having so many meetings and conference calls.
Basically I will have always checked the time either on my watch or from an email within such a short time frame that I never need to look at what time it is. Make sense? Probably not, but you asked for no BS. |

I always look at my watch just to look at it. I love the dials of my DJ & Sub.. And I know I need help but I wipe them down with a micro fiber cloth at least 3 times a day.

I do that all the time. There is nothing wrong with a watch being both a timepiece and an accessory.

All the time. Good thing I don't remember the time either, because sometimes I leave home while forgetting to wind/set my watch.

Microwave and car does not count if it relies, as many do, on setting it twice a year. No one takes the time to program them after day light savings time, so eh. Use whatever you want to tell time with. The more the merrier.
I do feel much more comfortable during meetings to glance at my watch, rather than my cellphone, all though you have to know when its appropriate to do so, as some can mstake a watch glance for bordem.
