Is this a fake Datejust?
Hi, I posted some pics of my new Rolex that my grandfather gave to me in the General Discussion forum, but some posters commented and said that I may be holding a fake Rolex....I do not know much about Rolex and how to spot a fake. Can you guys help me out? I cant take more photos. I did purchase the Rolex Report recently and I did some preliminary research, and so far I didn't find any irregularities. However, when I move my watch, i do hear it winding. Isn't it supposed to wind silently?
Here are the photos: photobucket.com/rolexitisme photobucket.com/rolexitisme |

It's fake, band is fake, clasp is incorrect.

Looking at the bracelet I feel that the center link is all gold. Can't totally tell by te photos though. DON'T THROW IT AWAY just yet. Have it checked to see if it is real or not by an authorized Rolex Dealer. They will give you the final word. Not these guys. Not to say they are wrong, but verification is the smartest thing for you to get!
If it is a fake, maybe think bout out buying a real one for yourself. Real Rolexes are very great and timeless. |

Mr. president1....have a closer look at the bracelet, clasp and watch...it is all fake. I'll be willing to be some cash that us savy forum members know much more than your average watch salesman.

I'm sure this is fake and maybe for all the reasons specified, but there are modern versions of Rolexes that set at least time by going CCW. My Explorer I is a prime example, bought in '93 or '94. Doesn't have a date obviously, but I wouldn't want people to go away from this thread thinking that all Rolexes must set clockwise or it's fake because it's just not true.

I understand. I wasn't contradicting you, only trying to add to the discussion as it's easy to draw conclusions. A while back there was discussion on the whole issue of CW vs. CCW, and it took me a while to figure out that there was nothing wrong with my Explorer. I just didn't want the OP to conclude that the CW test is definitive across the line. I believe I did read that all current Rolex models are CW, but obviously not all the vintage are. A table on the movements would be an interesting and useful resource.

As others posted, the watch is 100% counterfeit. The coronet on the dial is a dead giveaway.

wow. my parents and i are actually very upset about this. this watch was owned by my grandfather and it was handed down to me when i graduated this May. i dont know how it could be fake. i spoke to my dad for over an hr today about it. my grandfather told my dad that he would eventually give my dad a rolex when he grew up. before my grandfather passed away 3-4 years ago, he finally gave it to my dad, who never wore it. my grandfather said he paid over $9000 for this. my dad thinks it was purchased in the 1980s.
so i dont know if my grandfather was tricked into buying a counterfeit back in the day, or if he just made up the story of buying it for $9000 (highly unlikely). but it is what it is i guess. you guys all sound confident that it's a fake....would there be any point in going to an AD to get their opinion? i dont want to go in there like an idiot with a fake rolex asking them if it's real. that would be embarrassing. |

also...when i turn the crown clockwise, the minute hand turns counter clockwise. when i turn it counterclockwise, it turns clockwise. and when i do turn it clockwise, the second hand jumps to the 12 o clock position (sometimes) and i dont see how the coronet on the dial is a "dead giveaway".....could u explain why? |

Since they were replaced with the more modern 3130/3135 series in the 80's, the Mens movements all turn CW.
