Icon12 OK, it's been awhile...Question re: watch wearing habits w/ my Anniversary Submariner

OK, it's been a few months now and I'm still really happy with my watch. One question, though..I CONSTANTLY wear it at the gym and I've been doing this now for nearly 4 months. I'm somewhat careful (I don't bang it against the weights or the metal cables etc.), and the crystal and green bezel have no marks etc. But when I'm doing flys laying down with my back on the bench, I'm using heavy weights and I sort of (as unobnoxiously as possible...)clunk the heavy weights down on the floor. I can feel the shock of the weight through my arm, so I'm assuming this shock also travels through my watch as well. Any harm to the watch? Thanks...

(I guess if I just dropped the weights from mid-air like the other morons there, I wouldn't be asking this question)...

I dont think it will be a problem but why not take the watch off while you workout??

My guess would be that he doesn't trust storing the timepiece in his car or in the gym-supplied locker. That is the way I feel, anyway. :-)

Ok, then why not do this...

As you are finishing your last rep, turn your wrist to where your palms are facing each other with your arms fully extended, lift both of your knees up to the weights and simply let the weights come down. It will naturally pull you to an upright sitting position and then stand and rack the weights.

Wow! That was harder than I thought to put into words

Boom: Exactly.....I don't trust the coin operated little lockers near the attendants, because they're the ones with the skeleton key. And there have already been a few thefts from the main lockers.

Robb: I would normally do that with the lighter weights, but I'm using 65lbs. on each arm.....even if I lower the weights to the sides of my stomach, I can't bring myself back up to a sitting position. I need to lay them on the ground.

Thanks for the ideas, though. I'll probably just put it in my pocket when I'm doing flys.

Another option

You could change your workout routine. Have you ever tried running with a solid-gold Clownmaster-II on each arm?

I would say if your watch hasn't suffered any damage to date then maybe it won't. I wear mine every day while I work out and have since July. They have a certain shock resistance but years of this may have an affect but they are supposed to be one of the toughest out there so I'm guessing it will be ok. We'll see.

Your Rolex has a very sturdy KIF shock protection system, so it can take pretty rough handling.

I jog with mine on although I do wear a sweat band over it. Nothing adverse so far.

My 7 year old Sub, which is still keeping perfect time, has enduraed 100's of hard gym workouts, with free weights, dumbells, crossover cables..the works. Your watch will be fine. The worst that will happen, is a little cosmetic braclet damage that can be buffed out.

Like you, I refuse to take my watch off in a public place, for fear of loss or theft.

Keith,

You have to bring the DBs to your knees when your arms are extended. Don't do the negative (lower the weight) on the last rep. Keep your arms fully extended and bring your knees up to the weight and roll forward.

Good to see there are so many "fit" WIS on here. I personally try to pump a large pepperoni and mushroom at least once a week!

I had to laugh at some of these replies (I've also done a lot of deadlifts with pepperoni pies....), but they all made sense. Like most of you guys, I'll keep it on in the gym....it was the shock value that concerned me the most, and the risk seems minimal. And Ronnie, thanx for the tip, I'll try it.

So who does make the best chocolate cream pie in L.A, anyway? Seriously, though, wearing a watch would be very constricting, especially if you are lifting heavy weights as you are. I leave mine at home; the guys I work out with would never understand spending so many $ on a watch brand like Rolex. But they do love a fine cigar and great scotch. Go figure.
