Is this buckle real or a fake?

Hi all, new to this site and in need of help. This buckle was sold to me as c.1965 Genuine Rolex gold plated buckle.

Apart from the Rolex Crown, there are no markings on the buckle at all. I queried the seller over this and his response was "Many Rolex buckles produced from the 1940's-1960's were subcontracted with Rolex's full approval and sold through Rolex outlets and there are thus an array of differing markings and plenty were sold without markings underneath"

I also note the eyelet pin is drilled and not rolled as with every other Rolex buckle I have seen.

I would appreciate any credible information you can offer me either way.

Sorry for the poor quality images.

Many thanks

While it's true that Rolex had gold parts made by a third party at one time they never made gold plated for Rolex watches.

real or fake buckle?

i have six strap buckles from the 60s that have the crown on top and Rolex stamped on the underside, and i still have doubts that a few are authentic. no two are alike. four are "gold/brass" colored, non magnetic.
one is true stainless, magnetic, inscribed Rolex, but no "acierinox", which came in later years.
the sixth is inscribed "Rolex 14kt" and it just feels and looks true.
what's peculiar is that no two of the "questionable" ones have the same style crown and type font.
for that reason i have resisted offering them to the few forum members seeking buckles.
for what it's worth, my impression is that yours is not genuine.
i think the drilled flat end of the tang is wrong. the buckle lacks a good finish and should have Rolex inscribed.
i hope i'm wrong.

Rolex made goldplated buckles!
They could be easily found on DayDate supplied notepads and they are made by a reputable swiss buckle company with the "B" as the company logo

I am pretty sure that these could have been purchased seperately at Rolex ADs in the 80s and 90s as well
They are stamped "PLAQUE G" on the rearside and a Steel version of this buckle also exists with an "ACIERINOX" stamping.

I'll post pics later.

My buckle is marked Rolex and 14k and has been with my 1947 14k bubble back since new. I see gold plated ones on EBay from time to time coming out of taiwan
