Tell me something about Daytona 16520
Hi! I found a Daytona 16520 that Im thinking of buying, please help me guys. Its a T serial with black dial, the thing is that it has a "swiss made" dial on not a "t swiss made t" dial. Tell me, has it been changed or was it possible at the time to get this dial on a brand new t serial? As far as I know they started with these dials after 98 and this watch is sold in 96.
Does anyone know more about this? Thanks!!! |

You are under a common mis-understanding on serial numbers.. The T serials were first seen in about 1996 and continued to be made and sold for several years..
So, yes, it is possible that a T serial may have been produced and sold in the 1998 timeframe with a tritium dial.. However, you say "Swiss Made" is on the dial, and so I may lean toward a dial change, perhaps during a service at some point in it's history..

I think it would be rare for a T case to still be in the bins for a newly built watch as late as 1998. It's possible but not likely.
There are number of reasons for that dial to be on that T serial number Daytona. Original owner swapping it, RSC replacement, or just as Larry said - might have come that way. As long a the dial is authentic and correct for the model, then no worries IMHO. BTW, what are you basing your sale dat of 1996 upon? Did you see the papers, a receipt or other proof? Or just basing that date on the T serial number?

Thanks for your input, I´m aware of that the t serials was made not only in 96 but this particular watch is from 96. Thats why Im confused. But most likely as you say its due to a service perhaps?!

Patrizzi dials were defects where the paint matrix degraded.. Many, many were changed out until it became fashionable to have one.. A Swiss Made dial would not be a Patrizzi, but the original may have been..
