Magnetized Rolex?

My 18 month old YM (which I wear everyday) recently stopped keeping time. A month ago, I dropped it off at my Rolex Authorized Repair Center who contacted me today that the watch had been repaired. I asked about the problem and was told that the watch had been "magnetized" which is a problem sometimes for people who travel (i.e. go through metal detectors / X-Ray, etc.)

This is plausible to me as I not only travel quite a bit but also work in a courthouse environment when I do pass through such equipment regularly. That being said, I have never heard of magnetization as being a source of problems for Rolex before. Have any of you ever heard / experienced this type of problem?

not yet,
how ever i have heard of it and quite often from RSC.
that there are some really smart folks out there that stick their watches in their sonic washers
and the watch stops keeping accurate time

Common problem, A watch can easily be magnetized by induction heaters, speakers, clock radios, and metal detectors.

However a quick job to have the de-magnetized.

Find a competent watch maker near you, they can easily handle demagnetizing your Rolex

Yes they work. But are designed for smaller objects. It might take time or not be sufficient in hard cases.

Enough guess-work, get it to RSC asap and let them sort it for you

Postscript...picked up the watch today and am wearing it right now. So far so good...we'll give a report in the next few days.

Again, according to the Rolex Authorized Repair facility the problem was magnetization. They also made a couple of "minor adjustments".

Interestingly, I have a friend who is a commercial pilot who had a similar problem with his Breitling. I called to tell him what I had learned.
