Need close inspection of 1655 case engravings
This 1655 is being offered by a high feedback seller who may not know there is an issue (if there is one).
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROLEX-EXPLOR...item589827ead8 I think there is a high possibility the case is fake as it appears to have the long E's that are the found in fake cases. If so, the case likely has been artificially banged up to make it look old. Here are 3 comparison pictures: (1) the 4 eras of genuine case engravings from Stefano's blog; (2) the case of the watch being sold; and (3) a known fake case. Note also the clear similarity of the "G" and the "R" in the word "REGISTERED" in the ebay watch and the fake case. Neither of which is found in the genuine engraving examples. Other opinions please!

The font on the letters and numbers are not consistent with any of the examples, blocked in nature. Definitely a reason for concern!.

It is an odd font - not like any that came from the factory.
But if a replacement case was made by RSC does anyone know what that engraving looks like?

ASFAK all replacement cases start w a 4.x serial number. This does not. And in light of the striking similarity to known fake case, I'm inclined to conclude it is fake.

I was offered a similar watch last year, proceed with caution. The long E 's seem wrong

The left part of number "6" is totally straight, something that does not happen in any of the true examples (or in the known fake for that matter).

Well, I PM'd the seller and we had a cordial exchange that has resulted in this listing being ended by the seller. eBay wasn't pulling it apparently since he has never has a negative in many dozen watch deals.

Well done!
I recently saw a complete fake gilt 5512, with the correct engravery (including "E's"). Beware |
