How does this Sub look?

Fellas, newbie here, humbly asking for an opinion on this Sub, which my (even more newbie) mate has placed a hold on.

He was recommended this shop by a friend who goes to Taipei. Owner has offered the watch and bracelet at $3400 US, which sounds pretty good (too good?). He claims it's all original, etc etc. He's a trusted seller on Chrono24 and has lots of high-end pieces.

Just wondering: Does anything look suspicious about this piece to you pros from the pics? Thanks in advance. You guys are awesome.

Welcome to the Forum!

Watch looks good. It has replacement hands, does not match dial patina. You may also want to check on the service history.

Yup I agree. Service hands don't match the hour markers.
If you can live with that, then sure.

I'm just curious, the seller, from Chrono24...owns that site?

Guys, thanks a million. My mate is pretty sold on it and I think he's pulling the trigger. Forgive the ignorant questions, but when you say the dial markers and hands don't match

Question: would this replacement hand issue kill it as a potential sale for the real collector? (rolexperfect -- the thumbs down suggests this is the case!)

And: Does it affect the value a lot?

Neither he nor I are real investors in the Rolex game and I think he just wants a Sub that's a real Rolex, so I'll ask him to check service history etc. and report. If he gets it, pics to follow! Thanks again, and please keep the feedback coming!!

Just a real quick reply: "I'm just curious, the seller, from Chrono24...owns that site?"

I think Chrono24 is an intl. website, sort of like (gulp) an e-bay for high-end watches. The link in my original message is to the seller's own shop.

It would for a lot of people as the dial plots are tritium and the hands are more recent and luminova. So the watch is not original.

It would put me off and yes for me it would also devalue the watch.

Why do you think he might own chrono24com?

Or you just don't know the site?

chrono24 is the biggest watch selling site existing, very reputable, but of course also a lot of black sheep post there.

Guys, again, appreciate the feedback. Re: mcjp6's comment about devaluation. Is $3400 too much then for a trit dial + Luminova hands? Thanks!

If you are asking that question, then probably not, but if you like the watch as it is, then buy it knowing what you know about it.

Your decision.....

The watch looks to be in great condition. Specially for a 22 year old watch.
Unfortunately not a lot of details on the description nor enough pictures.
Other things to have considered are service history and import tax (if any) to your country?
Good luck let us know how it goes!

Guys, thanks for this. We'll definitely let you know how it goes. If you did want to get hands for this Sub with patina, where would be the place to look? We couldn't see anything on the forum 'For Sale' section, but maybe we're looking in the wrong place?

Unless aged with the dial, it is difficult (but not impossible) to try and match a handset to a dial without being present to compare the shade. You may end up paying for it too..

You could be back to square one, too light or too dark.

If you are already considering purchasing a hand set, you may be better off purchasing a watch that has everything original.
