What Is the Benefit of Sub Date vs No Date?

What is the benefit of having a Submariner with a date versus no date? I notice some here favor the no date Sub but a lot of people can't stand a watch without a date. What's up with this?

some folks can live without a date, others can't live without one.
some folks, such as myself, like the date magnifier, while others think it's hideous.
some folks prefer the SEL bracelet of the date model, while others like the lightweight better fit of the HEL bracelet on the non-date.

i think that about covers it?

I can honestly say that I use/refer to the date feature on my sub quite a bit. Anytime I have to date a document I check my watch for the date. The cyclops just makes it that much easier to read.

Well, in the beginning there was the Sub... then, after much hand wringing and teeth gnashing, there was the Sub Date for those with limited memory capacity..

(there is no such thing as a "no-date")

It's one of those things that "if you gotta ask, you just may not get it"

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes...

It's all about options and what's right for you.
Just like a vehicle comes in different colours and options, the Sub comes with, or without a date!

I personally love 'em all!

The benefit of having a date function is that you can check the date with your watch. Some people want this; others who don't, don't buy a sub date. The latter folks value the cleaner (in their view) no-cyclops crystal.

If you don't care either way but are buying to someday flip, get the date. If not, get the one you want.

I'm guessing you can find a dozen earlier threads here on this subject.

If you have a choice, get with the date feature.

Why not?

It's bound to come in handy more times than not.

I like the no date because its similar to the original, if I needed a date I would go
with a SD.

But i read on the Internet that it was called a no date submariner so it has to be true. There is no bad info in the net.

One of the EASIEST questions to answer IMO on TRF regarding no date vs. date. Simply put...at this level of quality, it's ALL about the looks for me. Not too many people mention the word...but it's the cool and clean SYMMETRY of the No Date that make the watch!! Simply better looking to me. An added bonus is the fact that it's the descendant of the 'original' Submariner. Having a date is the least important factor for me.

I bought the ND version first, then bought the date version. I had to have them both.

I did some extensive research and can report that one has a date, for those who prefer a date feature on the dial; and one does not have a date and only displays the time.

So to review: one with time and date. One with time feature only.

This research may not apply to vintage pieces. You may need to check the vintage forums on that topic.

I HAVE to comment on this one. The cyclops is a heritage, it really interrupts the flow of the crystal and makes the minute hand reading rather bizarre when it goes under the cyclops. Arguably, the sub date is a better seller than the no date. I DO like the symmetric clean ND.
I'd rather save the 1k and avoid the "pump" on the crystal(cyclops) than to get the date. If they just make it like the Deepsea then it's a different matter. I own a GMT2c for the record and getting a ND sub

When I wear my 5513 I am constantly looking for the date, realizing it's not there, and pulling my phone out to check. It can be quite annoying. For an everyday watch, I prefer to have a date feature.

It depends on what a certain person likes. For me, I would prefer the one with dates because I am conscious on dates.

I love the symmetry and clean dial of the No Date.
