Rolex have created a problem here. The new one obviously has a better bracelet and case. However, the new blue is absolutely horrible. I can't get used to it. The blue on the old model is a thousand times better. Therefore I would pick the 16613.

I had the same issue. I went old 16613 as well because of the prismatic, starbust, iridescent quality of the blue on the dial. I am still happy I didn't go 116613 yet I managed to have buyer’s remorse all the same. When I went 16613 I didn't know enough about the revision history and I ended up buying a 2002. I knew enough to purchase a Rolex with the gold through the clasp but it wasn't until after having my Submariner for a couple weeks that I learned of the year to year changes. Had I known more while shopping I would have bought a 2004 or later with “no holes in case” or a post 2007 “no holes in case” and “Inner Bezel Engraving”.

anyone think the price of the old subs will rise due to the new ones colour being not as great
or do you think rolex will smarten up and just release the new sub with the old colour? that makes sense to me, if they dont ever do that I figure the old ones would be a great watch to keep forever or resale for possible profit oneday
but if everyove loves the old ones colour so much i am sure rolex will release that same blue again, dont see why they changed it in the first place,,,,any thoughts?

I dont think Rolex is gonna change the color back. Once Rolex makes a product, they stick to it. I know the old blue is a classic and a rising star as far as I am concerned.

I just spent 2 months trying to decide. I love the new bracelet, side by side the 116613 is clearly bigger and a little heavier. The new look appears a bit more rugged to me. It is a nice piece worthy of Rolex. However, when side by side the old color sells itself, the new blue looks... "toy-ish".

For me, once side-by-side OLD is the better looking watch. Just no comparing that blue.

The new one feels more substantial; however, the new blue is not nearly as captivating as the old, traditional blue.

I have the old blue, circa 1996 model. Love the color, just about the perfect shade pleasing to the eye. Bought it new and will probably keep it forever!

Older one is a classic and must have for any collection - personally not a fan of the new look. Enjoy your choice though

Congratulations on going with the old brilliant blue dial.
Could it be thet Rolex could not match the old color in ceramic?

Back when I first noticed Rolex it was the 16613 that absolutely blew my socks off.
Still does. Every time!
I already have No.3 planned but if there is a No. 4 it will be a 16613.
I like to see others going for the 116613 however as it should mean more 16613s to choose from when I am ready.

It seems like the new ones have a lighter shade of blue. The older ones seem more bluesy, richer blue. Thoughts?

The old one by far!!! I sold my old and and bought the new one

Hated myself. So I sold the new style and again bought the old style but BNIB and am so happy

Now I have the new one but in black dial

Confused yet?

Bottom line: Blue on the new is not as nice as the blue on the old

Old!

I know it's human nature to be resistant to change, but after looking the new one over many times in the local ADs, I simply don't like the color. Period. If they would have kept the old color, it would be a no-brainer upgrade. Now, my 16613 really is a classic.
