Rolex shopping in Singapore
I'll be in Singapore this weekend and would be interested in hearing feedback on great places to buy Rolex. I'm aware of the Rolex dealer in the airport, but what about in the city itself. Are there any must sees from an AD standpoint? What about any vintage/pre-owned dealers?
Feedback appreciated. |

Orchid road up the end for used, they have many hour glass stores and a store called sincere watches they have real top end watches. They also have a nice Rolex boutique store under the new casino, you have to check out the sky pool and casino its pretty nice, the new rolex and Patek boutique are across from another, they have all brands, you can spend a whole day just looking at watches it's watch heaven, all in the same shopping centre in Singapore. Great place enjoy

I was there about a month and a half ago. A friend who lives there set up a day of going to nothing but watch shops. To be honest, it was disappointing. Loads of blingy stuff and the prices were ridiculous for what I found interesting.
I remember one vintage shop within a mall (there was an AD across the aisle) and they had some great stuff, but the prices were ridiculous. Also, for new, I was with a Japanese colleague and there were no deals for him there on new. Lovely place, though!

The Watch Palace in Lucky Plaza (which is next to the Rolex Building) is a decent AD. There's also The Hour Glass in Takashimaya, which is the building across the road. In the next building Wisma Atria is Dicksons, which is a smaller AD so they might be prepared to offer better prices.
As for secondhand shops, try Watch Arena in Balestier Road ( they have a website with prices ). If you're strapped for time and only want to confine your search to the Orchard Road area, nip over to Far East Plaza on Scotts Road where there are a couple of secondhand dealers. Happy shopping! |

Singapore probably has the one of the best selections in the globe, but the prices are also one of the more expensive ones! There are plenty of watch dealers, with Cortina and Hour Glass with the most number of shops around. But dun expect big discounts as they only offer at most 10-15%...
Of course there're others but ya have to take ya time and go to them one by one... |

You can check out the prices at the airport upon arrival first, before coming out of the custom (you are only allowed to make purchase upon departure), good for price benchmarking when shopping at the AD.
Still have the chance to pick up when you are leaving Singapore, if decided to get it before flying off. But do note of the limited models available (difficult to find any SS Sub or GMT). In general, price in Singapore is not attractive, when compared to the US. |

Orchard Road is the place to go, and inside of Lucky Plaza, a great pre-owned shop called Peng Kwee, which has a huge selection of pre-owned. I visited Singapore last in 2008, so hope it is still there.
Plenty of AD's also on Orchard Road. |

Singapore has a plethora of Rolex and other high end watch dealers. Just hit Orchard Rd, for starters, also Chinatown area. I was there in 2010 and countered like a dozen places where you could purchase a Rolex.

Was there last month and went to a few AD's who were all bemoaning the lack of SS Sports Watch supplies. They said they could sell them many times over.
As someone else said, lots and lots of bling but nothing hugely interesting. Prices fair but not brilliant even with the GST back. Airport had a small selection but were clearly up to 'do a deal'. I found the AD (can't remember the name) in Vivo City the least interested in selling anything. |

I spent yesterday going to Orchard Road as well as the dealer in the Marina Bay Sands. Here are a few of my observations:
1) One of the Hour Glass stores had 2 SS Daytona white dials in the case...but no SS GMT's or SubC. I thought that was odd. 2) Watch Palace did have SS GMT's and SS Sub's, but they were kept in the back...not out in the case so you have to ask. I thought overall their selection was good. It was obviously concentrated more towards the DJ, DD and non-sport SS models...but the selection was quite large. 3) Peng Kwee must have laced all their watches with platinum b/c the prices were ridiculous. There was a M-serial 16610LV that was missing links, no box/papers, etc and they wanted $10,500 for it. Y serial 16710 Coke was $8,800. Those are just too examples but you get the point. 4) the Rolex store in the Sands casino was VERY nice. They had alot of very high end Rolexes...white gold GMT's covered in diamands, some of the Daytonas with the jeweled bezels, etc. They also had the SS GMT and SS SubC in their display. I walked FOREVER yesterday and think I saw most of the locations discussed above. It was interesting to see so many AD's along Orchard Street in close proximity. You don't really see that in the States. |

Glad ya had a good walk! But did ya manage to buy any watches? Actually I'd forgot to tell ya that if ya really wish to purchase a Rolex in sg, anothe replace that might interest ya would be Chinatown, where there's 2 AD and some other 2nd hand shops.
And btw, was there any discounts offered for the SS GMTII and SS Sub? |

Didn't buy anything...if I had it would have been pre-owned and I just didn't see anything I really liked at a decent price. |

Lastly, avoid Peng Kwee. We have a joke about the name of this shop chain, the name in a Chinese dialect means quite expensive. |
