Daytona vs Cellini

Purchased my Daytona 6263 in 77 for $675, five years later, I purchased my Cellini 4112 for $2200. The Daytona is worth 40-60 times the purchase price, the Cellini about the same as the purchase price.

Anyone know why the Cellini line has not caught on?

It's just no what most think of as a Rolex. So I guess we can blame Rolex marketing department!?

If I was looking for a dressier watch Rolex wouldn't be my first choice. They just aren't as recognized

Kind of odd comparing a Newman Daytona to a standard Cellini..

The King Midas and early Prince Cellinis are worth a bit..

Might seem so now, but when I bought them 30+ years ago, the Daytona wasn't considered that much.

The Daytona has increased in value dramatically over the last few years. I agree with others that Rolex marketing just concentrated more on the Daytona style watches over the Cellini.

Trouble with the older Cellini's is you've got IWC Cal 89s, Zenith Cal 135s, a plethora of Omega Constellations, Seamasters, and De Villes, and a ton of beautifully made Longines' that are powered by far better made and finished movements, have more elegantly designed cases, and a much better history in the dress watch segment.

And you can get an IWC Cal 89 for under $1k.
