$400.00 per extra bracelet link?
I was trying on the Submariner at the dealer a month back and the bracelet fit pretty well (my wrist is 7.5") but it was just a bit tighter than I like so I asked the dealer if they charge to put on an extra link. The salesperson said yes, they charge $400.00. Now I live in the US and I realize the dollar is way down now in comparison to the Euro, etc. But I have to admit I was surprised. I expected maybe $50.00 or $100.00, but not $400.00. Is this the standard charge?

It is if it is a gold one. A SS should be less. I own 2 Subs one SS and one TT, had to buy extra links for both. $50 for the SS one in 1991. $200-ish for the gold in 2000.

If it's SS or TT that's highway robbery.

Yes, it was the SS Submariner I was trying on. I am surprised you guys got yours for so much less. I have to admit that the reason I put this out there is because $400.00 for an extra link sounded steep to me, even despite the continuing slide of the dollar. If I will go back, I will ask them to check that again. Thanks for letting me know what you paid, I appreciate it.

I bought a 16710 not too long ago that only came with 12 links so I called the AD to ask about it. They ordered me an extra link at no charge but I have since sold the watch, I will call tommorrow morning to see if they still have it!

When I bought my Sub, my AD put mine on for free also. I remember the guy who put it on said at the time it cost $50. That was seven years ago.

Could it be they were quoting the price of the entire bracelet?

Maybe. I would like to think it was a misunderstanding and it might have been one. Also, perhaps the salesperson was thinking of a "gold" link or something else like that. That is why I thought I would ask you guys. What I am thinking is that the salesperson was just "remembering wrong" or had a "temporary brain fart" so to speak. Hey, I have done the same thing myself occasionally. I didn't question him at the time and although I thought that was steep, I didn't have a basis for questioning it either as I didn't know anything different. I haven't gone back and asked them again, but I would have to guess I will get a different answer next time.

Check out this recent thread about the cost of links. It sounds like $400 is a mistake by your AD which you may need to point out. The more I deal with AD's and read about them here the less they ... well I'll just leave it there.

Cost of SS links
I just got extra links within the last month.
The first was for a YM, cost: $40. Second one from another AD was for the GMTIIc, cost $75. |

$400 for a link? What the hell is it made of, Fabrege eggs?
I gave $30 for a SS link for an Air King back in May. I'd expect a Sub link to cost slightly more...maybe $40. Shop around. The money you save will be in your pocket! |

Not sure since I haven't brought the price list to work, but I think an SS link costs US 45 US (non-solid centre links like for the SS Sub Date).

If it comes to them saying that's the price you must pay , tell them " I won't buy the watch without a FREE link " , Discression should work , and if it were me , I'd rather loose $400 than over $1000 .

Alex, I agree!
I was offered an extra solid 18 kt. gold link for at no extra charge for the DD I had a look at recently if I felt the watch was too tight-fitting for me.
