Automatic Date Changing Issues with my Datejust 116200 - M Series
Hi Folks,
I am new to the forum, but am finding a lot of interesting useful info therein... My issue is this.... I am having date changing issues with my "Datejust 116200 - M Series, from 2007" which I bought recently. At the time of purchase "which I did online" from "Authentic Time Inc" based in Duluth Georgia, although I am based in the UK. It was an unworn piece & changed from an original Pink Index Dial, to a MOP dial with 10 Diamonds. The problem I have is that the date changes during the late afternoon, early evening, say between the hours 0f 5:00pm - 6:00pm, instead of some minutes after 12:00 Midnight as I understand it should???? Is this a major problem, does it just need a service.... what.... Please someone, anyone... Advice???? Many Thanks. |

First set the date a day before then turn the hands clockwise around the dial till the date changes. Then you will know thats 12 Oclock midnight, then just set hands to correct time. The date can only change after two full clockwise revolutions of the dial,I just cannot see how it can change at 5:00pm - 6:00pm unless the hands have been set wrong when dial was changed.

The movement, as Padi mentioned, will only change the date once each 24 hours.. It cannot change the date at any other time. The hands are placed on the movement to correspond with this mechanical, fixed, action.
If it is indeed true that it changes at 5 pm, then likely when the dial was changed, the watchmaker put the hands back on without syncing them to the date change mechanism. If you don't want the date to change at 5pm, you have two choices.. 1. Turn the hands 12 hours ahead (or backwards) then set the date to the proper date, and it will then change at 5 am and be correct every day when you wake up. 2. Take the watch to a watchmaker to re-set the hands properly.

Howdy Guys,
Apologies for the delayed reply... I must say thanks first and foremost as, for the advice both of you gave... I proceeded to do as instructed, by turning the hands 12 hours ahead, which automatically changed the date and now does so at some point during the night, as by the time I awake in the morning now the date has changed correctly. I still intend to take it to my approved Rolex Watch repairer for him to give it the once over... although it seems to keep time well, I think after this little episode it could do with a health check. Once again many thanks... Kind regards. Gerald |

When you'll go to an official Rolex AD, you have to know that a MOP dial is not "allowed" for a 116200. The risk is that the AD refuse to correct your hands without changing the dial to an authorized one. You have to ask him 1st if he will. Here's an extract of Master catalog from 2007, DJ Dial page. MOP is for 116234 only here. |

Wow - Alpino - that's an unbelievable catch you made - can you imagine having the new MOP dial confiscated and another "official" new dial installed at full MSRP?
Sounds like a good indie watchmaker is the way to go ! |

Rolex does not confiscate or change authentic Rolex parts out..
They may change aftermarket parts, but only if you approve. They do not change them just because they feel like it.. (although they may refuse service) They have the right, within law, to change or alter trademark infringement parts. They cannot do anything else to your private property without your consent..

Many thanks for the welcome "EC"
Wow "Alpino" for true.... This is indeed a revelation, but very interesting to learn .... This forum is indeed the right place to come for all Rolex related issues. I guess I need to get the dial checked out by an authorised dealer to check it's authenticity... along with the diamonds too, although when I took it to have an extra link added recently "by an AD" there was no mention of the above fact. I think a trip back to the AD is in order, for a service and a break down of the various parts...ie... dial etc! I knew the dial had been changed from Pink (which it states on the watch card/papers) to MOP... and the diamonds are aftermarket as opposed to Rolex. I must add that, this wasn't too much of an issue for me, just so long as all changes and materials made/used respectively, were authentic and done properly by an AD... which I believe they were! Many thanks all for your input... I look forward to more chat and advice in the coming weeks.... months.... and beyond... Merry Xmas All... Have yourselves a good'un |
