Tudor Mini Submariner 94400, Info Wanted

I have a Tudor Submariner 94400 that I'm thinking of selling. Does anyone know if there is anything special about this particular model? I can't find much information on the 94400 model. I am the original owner and purchased it in about 1980. I believe it is worth about $1000.

The Tudor watch line is made by Rolex and generally considered to be a lower price point offering from the Rolex people.

In the modern era, Tudor's were packed in Rolex cases, with all of the 'Oyster' attributes of water resistance and style and function, but with 'other' movements, generally ETA movements.

One of the styles offered by Tudor was the Submariner, however for whatever the marketing reasons, Tudor offered a Sub in four sizes...Lady Sub, Mini Sub, Sub (mid size 35mm) and Sub (full size 40mm). All of these models shared a visual similiarity to the Rolex Sub which was only offered in 40mm size.

All of the Tudor Subs have been discontinued for new sale. The Tudor Sub line was first replaced with a Hydronaut line, sharing visual attributes with the Yachtmaster, and now Tudor has gone on it's own style direction, sharing only a parent company affiliation with Rolex.

As to the Tudor Sub being a 'real' Sub...well that's open to interpretation. Here on this forum, there tends to be a 'tolerance' of those owning Tudor's, but no real acknowledgement or validation, as the majority of participants in this forum seem to be Rolex purists. (My observation and opinion only).

If you think of the Tudor Sub line as a great set of watches with a non Rolex movement, but visually very similiar and with the added benefit of multi sizing, then it's a 'real' Sub. However, if you're trying to pass it off as a Rolex Submariner, in my opinion, it's not the same.

thank you very much for the information it was very helpful. i never try to pass them off as rolex subs hense no redial but to other watch guys i do point out the similarities. next watch will be a platinum ym (mid size). i will be posting more of my rolex watches once i return to ny in march (i'm in athens greece now) but i did bring one of my favorites to wear to holiday functions (i will try to post some pictures in the two tone thread next,it's a little older but in brand new condition and also mid size take a look i think you will like the band) plus my "mini-subs" are for everyday use. thanks again you are a true gentalman and HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL
